Scratch mark: underpaint exposed

My front bonnet got chipped by a stone.
How do I fix this defect?

My car paint is metallic silver and the undercoat color is dark gray (not sure if this is really the undercoat).

Can you share your experiences with this product? I've heard it mentioned elsewhere and I'm very interested in your opinion as I hold it in VERY high regard.

Can you post a photo of the damage?

Fixing a chip requires a LOT of patience. First clean the chip as Boss suggested (Great link Boss!). Next, take a sharply pointed toothpick or an artist brush, and CAREFULLY fill the chip with the matching paint. Be sure to stay within the chip itself. The paint will shrink over the next few days. Then, do additional coats until the paint in the chip is level to the surrounding paint. Allow the paint to throughly cure, then using a piece of terry cloth and something like Meguiar's ScratchX, work the spot, smoothing out the paint.

This is about as far as most should go. Professionals will sometimes go further with wet sanding the paint chip only, and then buffing with a rotary. I use a 3000 grit sanding block to level the paint chip. However, I suggest strongly that you leave that to someone with experience.

See if you can find an air brush toucher in your area. I sware these people are near miracle workers. I've seen them take cars that had been keyed and make the key marks dissapear.
