Re: Need Help! Worst case of Tree Sap I ever seen!!!

I just had a similar situation where i had tree sap on my roof and it wouldn't come off (tried claying with some Quik Detailer)so i looked on MOL an sure enough I found what I was looking for. Murr advised me to try isoproply alcohol. A few drops on a terry cloth and the sap came right off! Maybe you could give that a try if you have easier access to it? Goodluck!

Did you use full strength? I might have tried diluted first, but as long as all went well.

Turpentine. Try is on a small, unobtrusive area first to check to see if it causes any paint damage. I did an entire Audi that had been left parked under a pine tree for an entire summer.

Here is the Wiki on turpentine. It is distilled from pine sap.

Turpentine (also called spirit of turpentine, oil of turpentine, wood turpentine, gum turpentine, white spirit) is a fluid obtained by the distillation of resin obtained from trees, mainly pine trees. It is composed of terpenes, mainly the monoterpenes alpha-pinene and beta-pinene. It is sometimes known colloquially as turps, but this more often refers to turpentine substitute (or mineral turpentine).

It took nearly an entire gallon to remove all the sap from the Audi. But it got it all off and did not damage the paint. After all the sap was gone I went over the car with a DA and #83.

I used glass cleaner and paper towels on old, baked, hard pine sap droppings. They were so hard that I figured I'd soak them for a bit, and made a "poultice" with the towels and glass cleaner. Soak a bit of folded over (4x) paper towel and lay it on the spot and let it sit. I sprayed it after a while to keep it wet with cleaner.

In the time it took me to detail the interior (2 hrs) most of the spots were gone, all but the heaviest, which required a little work. The paper towel actually drew the sap from the surface of the paint and left nothing.

My choice for sap is straight rubbing Alcohol.
