  • I messed up with scratch X 2.0, what are my options

looks like I have rubber scratch X 2.0 through the CC and removed some paint, (I had some dark stuff on my terry towel) ,see the attached picture. the blemish looks really different at different angles from all dark to just haze.
I am sick to my stomach. If only I had read all the things I read since I would not have applied so much pressure on a localized spot...

What do you guys think I should do?

Seeing this is your first post, to MOL!

Second, what exactly did you do? You must have really put a lot of pressure on that one area for you to go through the clear by hand. What kind of applicator pad did you use? How long did you dwell on that one area, and how did you hold your pad? Just wondering...

thanks, wished I joined the forum in other circumstances tho...
I used a terry towel and elbow grease. I used way too much pressure for way too much time, I wish I read more about the right way to apply scratch X before proceeding...

With no nick, it is going to be hard to use any touch-up paint.

Might have to call a body shop for at least a rough quote.

Aside from painting the entire panel your best bet would be to have it airbrushed.

For a metallic paint it will require someone with skill and the ability to mix paint on the spot.

Wish you were in San Diego because I know just the guy :/

              Hi, sorry about what happened.

I think the problem here is that you were using a terry cloth. A terry cloth has almost as much cutting power as a wool pad. Add pressure to terry cloth and you generate a lot of heat. I remember reading somewhere that polishing and cleaning with Microfiber pads with a lot of pressure would also cause damage to the paint.

Most of us here rub our cars with foam pads and compounds that are way more aggressive than ScratchX 2.0, and we are not seeing any problem whatsoever. I think ScratchX 2.0 had little to do with the damage. The damage was caused by the terry cloth. ScratchX 2.0 simply assisted in lubricating the cloth.

There are a lot of high-end shops in the Seattle Downtown area specializing in Porsche. Do a search on google.

Do not feel discouraged or be afraid of using ScratchX 2.0 again.

Did you take any of the pictures before you began work on this?

My guess is you set out to remove a scratch that was completely through the clear coat to begin with, thus you kept chasing it when the only way it was ever going to be fully removed was by removing ALL of the paint in the process.

Just my guess, though. Exactly how long did you rub on this? 30 minutes + ?

Sorry to see this happened. All I can think is it will have to be repainted. Sorry.

I put some light scratches in my clearcoat with ScratchX trying to learn what "passion" means. I think I learned it is closer to caring and paying attention and not forcing it, but that continuing lesson is ongoing.

I am lucky I used such a forgiving product. I used a foam pad and the vehicle was actually "rocking". Had I used a terry.......gulp.

Hope you find someone skilled in air brushing and thanks for helping the rest of us newbies. Wish I had of shared my mistake, might have helped you. "....each one, teach one."
