  • Product for Mud Flaps

    I live on a 2 mile stretch of dirt road...frustrating for someone who likes a shiney car!

    I need a heavy duty vinyl cleaner/protector for my flaps and external vinyl on my CRV. Any suggestions? I think it is a waste of product to use the Meguiars Supreme Shine product for the exterior, as I just don't think this product will hold up well.

    Thanks for your help!

    A good cleaner would be one of the APC's.

    If you will be using a lot of dressing, go with All Season Dressing.

      Apc or APC+
      then Hyper Dressing, Supreme Shine. Although the products may make the sure face sticky, so maybe no dressing should be applied. But it is your call.

          I think APC and then M40 would be good.

                  I have mud flaps and I use Gold Class Trim Detailer on them. It is a great product that will clean and offer some protection for trim. It's also available over the counter at some places and is relatively cheap (about $3-$4).

                  I apply with a foam pad and remove the excess with my not so good MF towels. It works pretty well for me.

                      I am confused too. Its a dirt road? Does heavy dirt require APC? I have no other ideas...just trying to learn.

                        I agree with the above as that is exactly what I use (ASD) as well. It lasts very well, does not attract dust as bad as other dressings, and it looks awesome!

                        Usually soap and water will clean the mud flaps enough, but if there is a bit of coloring from the mud, then I use APC or APC+ to remove it before the ASD.

                          Re: Product for Mud Flaps

                          Would rubbing NXT (or other LSP that dries clear) into the clean mud flaps reduce the "tooth" of the rubber/vinyl?

                          I mean rub it in and buff off before it dries. The remaining NXT would then dry in the pores smoothing out the tooth making it easier to wash off the mud with water(?). Then M40? (not sure why) just sounds good, I guess.

                          Just because its a daily drive and a daily problem and too much work every day? Trying to figure out how to make it a "hose off" problem. I don't know what to do, just don't want to learn the hard way.

                            That is what I am aiming for, easier care. All these darn acronyms, someone fill me in "ASD?"

                            Thanks!

                              ASD = All Season Dressing

                              APC = All Purpise Cleaner

                              I suppose you could try it with the Ultimate Quick Wax, but not sure it would have much affect. Lately I have just been using the UQW on the outside of my mud flaps, and wiping excess tire dressing on the inner part. So far so good.
