  • My First Time!

Hello, I have just started reading your threads this weekend. All of the pictures of your work that you guys have posted are amazing.

I am obviously very new here. I have only really done minor detail work. I would wash and wax with my dad on his cars. We even clay bared one of our cars that spends every day at the beach in the summer. Anyway, I recently bought an 09 Accord EX-L Sedan (picked it up a week and a half ago) (without a dealer tag, got them to remove it and they actually did a decent job). And am pretty much taking car of my girlfriends '05 Mazda 3.

Her car has only seen a wash from an automatic car wash and has only seen about one coat of wax a week. I washed and waxed both cars (this is before I found out about this website). I know her car needs atleast a clay bar now. I just graduated college so I can't afford all the cool products everyone has here, but I do have Gold Class Liquid Wax and GC Car Wash Shampoo and Conditioner. I also just bought GC All Wheel Cleaner. A meager selection of products but a good start, I think.

My biggest problem is the Mazda's wheels. They are really bad. I have heard that All Wheel Cleaner stains my parents 2002 Accord, so I don't want to use that. Will Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner be strong enough to clean over a years worth of break dust but still be good for when there is only minor build up?

Also, when you talk about claying the wheels is that the same clay bar that you would use on the rest of the car?

Sorry for such a long thread, but fyi the Accord still looks almost showroom quality.

    Thanks you guys are amazing!

Once a week? That's awfully frequent, don'tcha think? Are you using an actual wax or a spray wax?

What do you mean when you say that All Wheel Cleaner stained your parents' Accord? The paint, or the wheels? Also, what kind of wheels are on the Mazda? Are they factory, or aftermarket, or what? Any pics? Let us know if you need help with pics. With regards to using a clay bar on the wheels, no, you cannot use that same piece on the rest of the car. Some people like to cut their clay bars into sections. You could do that if you wanted to and then reserve one of the pieces just for wheels.

Never use the clay bar on paint after cleaning your rims.

When we had our Mazda, I always used All purpose cleaner on our factory rims @a 10:1 dilution.

          Re: My First Time!

Sorry I guess in my excitment to post I didn't proofread.

The Mazda saw maybe a coat a year. Yes the wheels are still factory. I will try to get pictures up asap, just to show you how bad they are.

By the same bar, I meant the same type of bar. Not the same exact piece, I understand that.

As for the Accord wheels, they are the factory wheels. I have not seen the problem, but my dad has used MAWC (All Wheel Cleaner) on them and said that the spray was leaving "Stains" after reading a little into it, I think that it is taking off the clear coat that is on the wheels. I will see if I can get some pics of that too, because I am not exactly sure what the problem is either. My dad said that I should return the bottle.

I am still looking for Hot Rims Aluminium Wheel Cleaner.

Thanks for the posts, I will read them, I just wanted to see if someone had specific knowledge about Mazda factory wheels.
