  • Worth Detailing?

I live in Sierra Vista, AZ and it's basically all sand/dirt. I will wash it and maintain it and the next morning it will be all dusty again. Today I drove it around for like 5 minutes and the car is now brown instead of black.

    Is it even worth detailing?

Anything to help it repel dust?

Well keeping a constant coat of wax on there will certainly help to minimize swirls during washing, drying, wipe downs etc

Also, if people brush against the vehicle the wax may help to reduce the marring from the dust/sand being pushed into the paint.

As for dust repellent, I can't help you there- sorry!

It *****, but not doing anything will only help the paint age faster.

Perhaps how long you plan to keep the car is part of the equation.

It's a 1992 BMW 325ic. There are two coats of wax on it, and I've been keeping up with the washing about once a week. The dust is just too much though!

Well it ultimately is your choice. The way I look at it is like this.

We all no that wax is the sacrificial barrier to protect the paint. Having said this,If you vehicle is not waxed exposed to dust, wind etc. The elements are battering your paint. Which over time will significantly shorten the life span of your paint. These same things battering your wax shorten the life span of the wax, your paint is still in good shape.

Overall like I said at the beginning, it is your choice. I would keep on waxing if it was me.

Wouldn't keeping a bottle of UQD or UQW with a microfiber around cut down on how often you actually have to wash it with soap and two buckets? Rather than spend an hour washing and drying each week, just a quick mist & wipe should get all of the dust off the car in 10 minutes.

              I do this.If done properly,it doesn't scratch.I like UQD for this.

I do prefer to wash, but not daily.UQD and a couple of supreme shines keeps the dust minimal.By the time you get to the end of the week, the amount of dust will be reduced dramatically.

Although,if the dust is particularly bad and you find heavy deposits daily,I wouldn't recommend it....only if the dust is light.

Now this is not a megs product but the FinishKare line are all known for their antistatic propertys which help to repel dust. Everybody seems to love their fk425 antistatic QDer. Maybe that will help your dusting problem a little.

How about a California Duster? Use it to remove the lose dust, just be extremely careful for particularly large grit particulate.
