scratchX on instrument

Hi..not sure where to put this post.Not classed as furniture line.

If anyone can help here?

I'm selling off my guitars,and am detailing them and need to be pretty quick.

Scratches and swirls okay...no problems.

This old fender bass is a bit tricky though,partly because of its age.it's been gigged heavily and i call it the nicotene monster...It should be white,but is mustard.That's not the problem though.

I'm using scratchx...excellent results,but sometimes is gumming up on me.Age?Thin coat?dirt?

Would DC1 help here? Not even sure about wax.

ScratchX is a paint cleaner, so DC1 before would not change a lot.

The one thing, if you have been having trouble with layers of gunk (tar), is that two coats of ScratchX should be no big deal. If one coat removes the gunk, and then one works on the paint, you should be in good shape.

Thanks for the interest Murr.

I think the stains are permanent...A bit like a colored laquer to start with.

Guitar finishes are like that...they stain easily.Most can be cleaned easily,but this one is a pain.

I think i'll give my DC2 a try and maybe put some oils into the finish.I'm not trying to remove staining,just get rid of swirls and scratches,which is done.Just the problem of gunking up..don't really know if it's dirt or laquer?

I know it sounds silly,but it's still a paint surface.maybe one of the mod's here who know about paint chemistry can help if they read the link.Maybe even find the article interesting...the polyurethene coating under the laquer

The customer is paying me good money to get it cleaned up and ready to gig.These things take forever to detail and setup.
