  • Wood Trim

Probably because of my careless cleaning, there are lines of scratches of my wood trim on my Mercedes.

I believe these wood pieces are real wood with clear coat. What is the safe way to remove these scratches? ScratchX? DC-1? PlastX?

The trim is coated with a resin. ScratchX is a good start.

      Re: Wood Trim

Use the least aggressive product/method to get the job done!

There is a layer of clear coat on your trim. What you are describing is Swirls and Scratches. To avoid them in the future, use the highest quality microfiber towel and a Interior Product for cleaning those areas.

Start out with the original ScratchX.

If that doesn't do the job, then try SwirlX, ScratchX 2.0, and so on...

I don't know if this helps you out,but I clean/polish guitars which have a softish laquer on top of natural wood.....

I use the old scratchX(mildest)with a foam applicator and it works great. After a couple of applications the swirls are gone.

        Do a test spot first.

        How old is your Merc?

There was a post a while back by 'Maserati Mario' having trouble with his trim in his merc.
You might want to consider asking him for advice?

My MB is a 2004 CLK. The car is in excellent condition, maintained by Meguiar's products since it was new.

I am concerned how think is the clearcoat (or resin) on the wood trim. The scratches are in the center console so if I screw this up, it will be very visible.

So, since the original ScratchX is least aggressive, I will use it first. I thought I was supposed to use a microfiber to apply the ScratchX, should I use the yellow foam applicator and massage the surface?

After the ScratchX, should I apply NXT to the surface?

Also, I still have some DC-1, is DC-1 more aggressive than ScratchX?

From my research you might be able to polish them out.

              Re: Wood Trim

I just tried ScratchX (original) but it did not help. Maybe I did not rub hard enough, I dom"t know how thick is the clearcoat (resin). I was concerned that I would make it worse.

Did you do a test spot?
Try some M105 or Ultimate Compound.
The resin on the wood is a paint and you can treat is as one.
But always do a test spot on everything you do.

Another point.scratchx(old version) works with diminishing abrasives.

what I found with practice,is to keep working it.I get good luster by using a foam applicator. If you stop and wipe off too early,it doesn't work well.
When i'm done,it's the applicator which is polishing/buffing,and find there's not much need to wipe anything off.

                  It's still a good product,albeit mild.

                  As mentioned above,do a test spot.If it doesn't work,try something more agressive.

There's a video with Mike Phillips showing how to use scratchx which is useful...I'll have a look.
