  • another water spot problem

Hello, I know what your thinking. "Another water spot problem"
    Well, kinda....
I have a Ford Ranger (red) that has some really horrible waterspots on it. I've used rubbing compound, clay bar, cleaner wax, 50/50 Viniger, straight viniger, scratch out, 3m swirl mark remover, Production Midnight special wax, everything that I own i tried for hours nothing seems to work. In my appartment compley i park my truck 3 feet from the curb and the sprinklers still get the entire vehicle. I also have to park there everyday and the sprinklers come on every night. WHAT DO I DO HELP? do i have to wet sand it...??]

Note: these pictures were taken after using all of the products....

That's some pretty horrendous water-spotting. I would suggest starting with ColorX, maybe SwirlX, you probably will not need anything more aggressive with that (plus you won't have to work it too much).

Wonder if a special water spot remover would be your best bet. I have this one but haven't gotten around to trying it yet. I've never been let down with Danase products in the past.

It is worth mentioning, if you still have to park there, it may not be worth the effort to fix it?

If you're going to remove those spots by hand, then good luck. Not saying it can't be done, but that looks like a job for a dual action polisher and a strong product.

After reading Bounty's thread, I would be inclined to give D151 a try...even if it's done by hand, but be sure to get hold of an applicator with a little bite...such as a microfiber pad, or even a terry pad.

Wouldn't the correct products offer some kind of protection against this every occurring again? I mean, even if the car is subjected to more hard water, I would assume that Meguiar's products would protect the finish - provided the owner washes the car properly?

              Just guessing.

                Bounty's Thread URL

Incase you didn't see it, I think Bounty's thread that Rusty Bumper is referring to is this one:

Depending on how quickly it got that bad/permanent, all bets are off.

Didn't want to mention it but he's right. If you put hours of labor into removing the spots and park there the next night it's all pretty much for nothing. Prevention is the key...

...here in Florida we have some hard water and this is a very common issue as referenced in my thread. I've noticed no matter what I do to cars which are regularly doused in well water (sprinklers) and allowed to sun dry that the alkaline contaminants and mineral deposits will eat through anything given the chance.

You might be able to save it if you get to it the next day but if this is a nightly occurrence then no wax will save you...
