  • First time washing & waxing a new car!

I just acquired a brand new silver Scion about a week ago and would like to wash and wax it for the first time. Is there a particular car wash and wax that I should use? Also, there are some light visible surface scratches around the door handles from people opening the doors before the car was delivered.

You can use either Gold Class Wash or the NXT Wash. Both great products.

How much effort do you want to put in? A good starting detail would be:

        1. Wash - Gold Class soap, 2 buckets, quality sponges/towels.

        2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit

        3. Clean - ScratchX 2.0 for the handles. Then ColorX the whole car.

        4. Wax - Nxt 2.0

I strongly suggest using the clay bar . I just got a new car a couple of weeks ago and was surprised at how much it made a difference. Also, as Murr said, ScratchX should work quite well around the handles. Good luck and have fun with your new ride!

Absolutely do this; though you may want to try your hand at other waxes too. Most people here recommend NXT 2.0 or M26, but I would also recommend Gold Class and even plain Meguiar's Cleaner Wax. It's all a matter of preference.
