    Re: Zymöl cleaner wax?

I understand that we are on the topic of Zymol's cheaper cleaner wax that is distributed by Turtle Wax. I am characterizing the company based on their products that I hear about a lot and what I've heard of their results. I don't have very much faith in their higher priced products, thus I don't have faith in their low-end products. I buy Meguiar's products because I know that if it has the Meguiar's name on it, I will not be disappointed and it will be of high quality from the lowest priced products to the most expensive.

Justin: to be honest, your opinions on Zymol are of the very few that I genuinely believe. You are not zealot and you seem to fairly and objectively offer a valid interpretation of a product that you seem to be extremely happy with. You have actually partially compelled me to try Zymol products.

How's the finish? The most important question is how does Glasur compared to Meguiar's products, like NXT?
It's true, you apply it with the palms of your hands. Its very strange at first, but after a little bit you get the hang of it and I've found that I'm barely using any of the product at all during application. You only put a tiny bit in your hands and spread it over about a 2-4 square foot area, allow it to sit on the paint for about a minute or so, and wipe it off. No need to wait for hazing.

The finish is great - see the thread I just started about finishing up my Porsche 944 in the Show Off section. I find it to be comparable to Medallion Premium Paint Protection (but still in production), and with slightly greater depth and smoothness - it almost seems to even out orange peel to a minor degree...it's really no contest against NXT, IMO. NTX is good and used to be my go-to product (and I still use it on customer's cars and my own sometimes) but it fell out of my favor when I rediscovered Gold Class. Keep in mind that Glasur is five times the price of NXT though, which is an important factor for pretty much everyone. It's not as durable as MPPP as it's a high Carnauba product. Smells wonderful too - like coconuts and cleanliness *sniffs hands*. And the smell stays on your hands for hours, even through multiple washings with dish soap.

Calais: I appreciate that you trust my judgement on this, it makes me feel better about being somewhat preachy when people start ragging on Zymol's products. I have to say that I'm impressed enough with Glasur that I'm planning on trying some of their other products, I have my eyes on Field Glaze at the moment. I hear you about liking Meguiars because it's what you know - Glasur was the first non-Meguiars product that I've tried in the better part of a decade...I know that if I pick up a megs product that it will be reasonably priced and do the job that it says it will. If you want to try a Zymol product, I'd try one of their cheaper waxes - they have many in the $40-$50 a jar range (and the jars will last a LONG time)...I'd LOVE to know what another Meguiars junkie thinks of their stuff.

          Re: Zymöl cleaner wax?

It is true that the Zymol Cleaner Wax is made by Turtle Wax. One obvious clue is that the bottle used is identical to the one used by many other Turtle Wax products. Another clue is that Zymol doesn't specifically advertise this product.

I wouldn't say that this product is just like any other Turtle Wax products. Zymol wouldn't put its names on this Cleaner Wax if it were anything inferior. I just used this cleaner wax on a neighbour's DTS, after a couple passes of SwirlX. I think the result was great. It polishes and fills in light scratches really well. I could see it working by deepening the gloss. I think this product produces slightly better results than Meguiar's cleaner wax.

As for durability, the Zymol Cleaner Wax is not meant for that. Neither are many of the other cleaner waxes. One of the major problems of this product is that it creates a lot of dust during use. For $20, I expected something better from Zymol. This product does what it does, but it is not made to impress, like most OTC cleaner waxes.

Speaking of Zymol, just like any other wax companies, this company rebadges a lot of generic products with its own name and selling them at a premium. The foam appliacators Zymol charges six-dollars each can be found packaged by other brands for less than a dollar.

I'm thinking of offering to special order waxes specifically for individual car models (Zymol's Volvo, Jag, Saab or "Japon" waxes) if customers give me a deposit and pay slightly more, due to increased overhead.

I have never tried any of the Zymol waxes, so take what follows with a grain of salt: From what I have read on various forums, the lower-end Zymol waxes are not worth the money. Glasur seems to be precisely the wax many folks suggest as the appropriate entry into the Zymol line. Justin's experience would appear to confirm this. This is the reason I did not include Zymol's lower-end waxes on my "best waxes list."

As far as the claim that waxes can be matched with the paint systems of particular manufacturers, I view this as a bunch of marketing hooey. Glasur, for example, is marketed as a wax specially made for Porsche, but everyone agrees that it looks equally good on any car. I have seen no scientific evidence whatsoever that waxes can be tailored to specific paint systems.

I've seen the Zymol Cleaner Wax at Auto Zone but didn't pick it up. I'm happy with my Meg's cleaner waxes. Just picked up #6 at O'Reilly Auto Parts today. Can't wait to try it out!

                    Re: Zymöl cleaner wax?

Ok guys. Just my .02 cents. Before I became a "Meguiars junkie" I tried the Zymol consumer line product and I liked it. Do I use it now? No. Would I try it again? Sure I would. In this thread I have seen various views about this product, some of which are borderline. Please, don't get me wrong, I love the give and take, but I need to remind everyone of the rules.

One of the best quotes ever made on this forum was made by Mike Phillips, "Find something you like and use it often"

                    Now onto the rules:

                    4. No bashing any company or their products. No bashing other people. If you can't say anything nice about someone, then don't say anything at all.

                    Thanks for understanding everyone,

Admittedly, I am a bit skeptical about that too; but if people who have higher end cars want a product that they feel is more exclusive and tailor-fitted for them so be it. I don't mind using some of the products a customer wants, but if they want what is IMO the best results I can produce, Meguiar's are my go to products.
