  • Ouch!!! Door got Dinged

The car was out in the rain today and I was going to get the water drops off before they had a chance to dry, in the process I ran across this, must have happened in the last day or two.

It first looked like the paint had been ripped off, but after close inspection I can feel the black chunk is higher than the natural green of the car.

I haven't done anything to it yet, but I thought this would be the place to ask before I did the wrong thing, I'd appreciate any suggestions related to the consumer line and working by hand.

    Thanks.

If you are sure it is something on the paint, you could try some Bug and Tar remover, some Dawn on that spot, etc, then clay for anything remaining if the cleaners work.

If that was paint transfer, would clay remove it? I've never tried but sometimes I've seen paint transfer that can just be washed/rubbed off.

I would try to remove the excess of whatever it is. Try Like Murr suggested.

Thanks guys for the replies, I went out to take another look today, although I didn't have any bug-n-tar remover handy, I still had a decent supply of Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, so I decided to try a little. I soaked a small section of the MF with DCPC and rubbed on it lightly. I was able to remove the very small light blue remnant but the black section remained.

After a second look in better light, I'm thinking the black is coming from below the original green of the car and not on top of the green. After rubbing and buffing off the DCPC in the handle area I'm thinking I need to do the whole car.

It is likely that the plastic under the handle is black, so that may be what you are seeing.

Nothing would cover that then without using touch-up paint. If you just want to keep it simple and dab some in, or get into the whole wet-sanding and sanding mark removal process is up to you.

As far as the rest of the car, yeah, ***** to have to improve everything else now....

I'll bet you're right about the black plastic. I'll probably try a gentle touch up and then decide. If it really bugs me I'll see what the local body shop would charge me, they did some work before and I was pleased. The wet sanding in my mind is a bit scary, afraid I might make the overall problem worse.

Just apply the paint with a toothpick in small dabs to form a thin coat. Then let it dry for a bit, then apply a second coat the same way. Do a third or fourth as needed.
