  • correct a newbie if I am wrong!

First off hello to all fellow detailers and car enthusiasts. I'd like to say this site is awesome! Great info. for a newbie like myself. Although this is my first post, I took some time in reading as much as I could. I decided to hit my black car with a good wash/dry, clay bar, scratchX 2.0, deep clean polish, and NXT Wax 2.0

I was very happy with the results I got from the products. It looked like a totally new car. I had a couple of questions for you all that I am curious about now. I happen to have the car in direct light and happen to see a couple of spots that I think could be hit again with scratchX 2.0 and re-polish. I read that I can remove the wax with just good o'le clay bar and quick detailer spray? After removing the wax can I just start hitting it again with scratchX 2.0? Do I need to worry about the previous polish it had on top of it? Basically I just need to go back after all that work I put it in it. Lesson learned about finishing up at night and no light to see the results.

Also, how much dust should be on the car when using a quick detail spray on the car after waxing? I keep thinking if I drag that dust I will cause swirls.

    Any help will be apprecited.

    Thanks,
    Mark

After claying the car, there will still be some protectant left on the paint. This can easily be removed by using ScratchX 2.0.

Preferably, the wax should be removed before trying the remove the swirls (50/50 IPA wipe or the Detailer Line Glass Cleaner does the trick), but you will be fine with ScratchX 2.0.

The scratchX 2.0 will remove the wax/polish in the spots, if you've already clayed it in the beginning, you should be fine. after you get the area looking the way you want it, you can repolish the spots and then wax, or just go straight to the wax.

How much dust can you use a quick detailer on safely? That's hard to answer, if it's really dusty, then your going to need to wash it, if it's not too bad, then you can quick detail it, BUT you have to use care when doing it as not to reintroduce swirls. I have a black grand prix that's been over a year since I polished it and it's a daily driver and the paint is in really good condition. For one, you have to lubricate the area, and use care wiping, especially on the inital wipe. I like to lightly wipe the area after wetting it, turning the towel and giving it a light wipe to dry it.
I have a buddy who had a black vette that never see's the rain and it's garage kept and only driven on nice days on the weekends. Two years ago I did a full detail on it and the paint looked very nice, was pretty much defect free. I saw it last weekend as he was giving it a dust removal wipe down and I noticed it's cob web city again. I was watching him and noticed he was barely using enough detail spray and applying a significant amount of pressure when wiping it down, thus dry wiping dust and applying pressure to it with the microfiber towel.

      Hope this helps

Re: correct a newbie if I am wrong!

Thanks a lot! This helps answer my questions I had. I am real skeptical about the amount of dust. I think I rather just wait until washing it on weekends. Even then, I will be extremely careful on washing and drying.
