help a newbie out

hi guys,

new to the meguiar's forums, and detailing in general. appears to be a wealth of knowledge here.

i've recently bought a used car (only 5yrs old), it's light blue metallic in colour and it's time to detail it.

from running my palm over various surfaces of it it feels gritty and so i believe it will need a full detail. what kind of regime would you recommend for a daily driver?

i've been recommended something along the lines of, wash, use deep crystal polish, then next gen tech wax, and use the next gen speed detailer once a week to maintain.

After the wash, be sure to clay bar the car.
I was really impressed when I tried the NXT 2.0 wax.

so after the claying..it's fine to use the deep crystal polish and next gen tech wax?

do i need to polish or is the tech wax an all in one?

Product selection depends on the condition of the paint, if you'll be working by hand or machine, what results you want to get and so one. You can read the link first and once you've got that then come back and we can help you sort out what products to use

I can only speak for my truck, I used Ultimate Compound for polish, but I had terrible case of dealer installed swirl marks. If yours is not bad, I would use something not very agressive for a polish. The tech wax is not all in one.

There is a wealth of information and excellent tips throughout the MOL kingdom. My tip to you would be read everything you can, and then read it again.
Get the right tools and products for the job such as a Megs DA machine and carefully work and sample one test area at time. Get it perfect and then move on. With a little practice, elbow grease and passion you would be amazed at what you could accomplish.
For reference I used this process:
1) MGC Wash
2) Clay Bar
3) Ultimate Compound
4) Deep Crystal Polish
5) NXT2.0 Wax

This is pretty good, but it would be best to do a test spot/area with SwirLX first, instead of jumping right to the Ultimate Compound. Also, if you used SwirlX, the DC Polish after would be optional.

This also assumes that these products made it down there by now.

thanks for the replies all.

so i've read the 5 step paint care cycle and watched the videos.

what i'm after is a schedule like, every week do this, every month do this, every 6 months do this, etc.

i'm also limited to the products i can because here in australia we don't get the full meguiar's range as far as i can tell.
