  • Car wash went wrong,on a new car

i just got my first car last month,so few days after i use the car and it gets dirty,i just wash it with armor all car wash+wax...i wash it few times(different days) using the same car wash solution, and once wax it with kit liquid wax,and i did it all using ordinary sponge..i didn't know anything about quality of wax, wash solution or about detailing until i discovered this forum,a complete noob,so pls forgive me...

so my problem now is,the paint got swirl marks, lot of swirl marks, anything i can do to get back the showcar shine that it used to be?should i just start off with the meguiars 5 steps car wash?will the wax that i use previously leaves a layer and how should i remove it?thanks....

yes there is lots of things you can do. If its just swirls you have there. You can start back the 5 steps and make sure you use proper washing mitt, proper drying cloth and proper applicator foam and microfibre cloth this time. If not you will get more swirls on your paint. You can try SwirlX in your case.

so i can start the 5 steps right away?no need to remove the layer of wax(if got any)?

The claying and cleaning will remove previous wax.

          Welcome to MOL,

The first thing to address would be your washing technique. I have not tried Armor-All wash products to know if they are so bad that even sound technique will lead to severe swirls, but regardless you will want to check your technique (and it is up to you if you want to play it safe and go for some quality Meguiar's car wash and mitts or not).

The link to Murr posted for the video on how to wash a car is spot-on.

After getting that down, you will need to consider a course of action to remove the swirls now in the paint.

From the consumer line there is a product called SwirlX that should be your starting point. Murr also posted links that cover swirl removal technique.

Check out those links and feel free to check back here with any further questions.
