  • Oxidation

Hi I am a newb! I have light to medium oxidation under where my car bra used to be. Im guessing moisture from a car wash under the bra caused it. Im going to buy all meguiars otc at wallmart tonight. I have swirls so swirl x is on the list. Now I am not sure about the oxidation? I know there is no pic currently. But picture medium oxidation caused from a bra. What should I use to get rid of it? UTC? My process is going to consist of. 1.) 2 bucket wash and dry. 2.) Clay Bar 3.) Swirl X, and some kind of paint cleaner to fix oxidation (UTC?)4.) Deep Crystal Polish. 5.) NXT Tech Wax 2.0. Also Will I need to buy the deep crystal paint cleaner? I wonder if claybar and swirl x will be suffice? All will be applied by hand. What are some of the better materials I will need for the whole job? I have a good mit. I know i will need more microfibers and applicators. Does walmart carry any good applicators for paint cleaners or polishes? Also I need good quality micro fibers. I know megs experts say use foam applicator but ive been to walmart plenty of times looking to do this project and they seam to not sell foam applicators. They do have some terry cloth and microfiber covered sponges? They are applicators. Also whats the best drying towel? I heard the absorber is good. Or a waffle weave micro fiber.

    Re: Oxidation

Well if it is a clear plastic bra I would use PlastX and/or the Headlight Restoration Kit

      Re: Oxidation

To deal with oxidation, here is what I recommend.

      1) Wash the car with a conditioner rich shampoo like Gold Class Car Wash. While there is nothing wrong with NXT or Deep Crystal, I find the Gold Class Car Wash really restores flexibility and softness to the paint. It will not be a light and day difference, but the surface will feel more slick to work on.

      2) Use clay bar on the oxidized surface. For oxidation removal, I would normally recommend a more abrasive one such as Dtailing Clay Mild or Aggressive, but since you will be shopping at Walmart, the over-the-counter Smooth Clay kit will have to do.

      3) SwirlX alone is not sufficient in removing oxidation. Meguiar's Ultimate Compound does an excellent job at removing oxidation. This product is available at Walmart for around under $8. Meguiar's Ultimate Compound can be used with a foam applicator or a 100% cotton terry cloth applicator. You may need to do 4-5 passes by hand to achieve your desired result. You also need to work the compound into the paint very passionately (the term passion essentially means suffering). Do a small section at a time. Do not allow Ultimate Compound to dry on paint suraface. And always test the product in an inconspicious area to ensure the product produces satisfactory result.

      5) A few application of SwirlX should be used after you have used Ultimate Compound. Ultimate Compound removes defects, but it also leaves fine scratches from the cleaning process. SwirlX will effectively remove the fine scratches if you work it in to the paint in a suffering manner (aka passionately). Remember to work SwirlX in until the product starts to disappear from the paint. This is very important as SwirlX contains a diminishing abrasive agent that breaks down as you work with it. Again, do not allow product to dry on paint and do a small section at a time.

The steps above should sufficiently enhance the surface of your car and possibly remove oxidation.

Also, Walmart does not sell Meguiar's applicator pads. You may need to shop elsewhere for them or get whatever is available at Walmart.

As far as tools and equipment, just have to do the best you can as you go. And you can always upgrade some in the future, and always need a few more things.. Waffle weave towels tend to be good for drying, with the more plush towels for removing products.
        Hope that helps...

                Re: Oxidation

so i should work ultimate compound in and then do swirl x to remove the scratches from the compound? So i should buy quit a few terry cloth applicators? I will also be using swirl x on the whole body because my black paint has tons of swirls. I know I am looking to do a project that will take like 3 days lol.

                  4.) deep crystal polish.
                  5.) nxt tech wax 2.0.

Step # 2 above - The Clay Bar will remove "above surface" contamination, not oxidation. The clay is designed to create a "smooth as glass" surface and prep the surface for additional steps.

Step # 3 above - After you clay, simply use Ultimate Compound since you have both oxidation and swirls. Ultimate Compound should be able to take care of both in 1 step, so there is no need for any other "paint cleaner".

Step #4 above - DC Polish is really an optional step. Probably recommended here because the vehicle is so oxidized, but the next time you do your car, it may not need to since it will look much better.

Step # 5 above - Excellent choice for protection

No need to buy DC Step # 1, since you are using Ultimate Compound

okay mike thanks but I dont plan on doing my whole car with UC. I have swirls throughout my car so I will use swirl x. UC will prob just be for the oxidation area? Start light right? lol So yeah I dont really want to use UC on my whole car because the oxidation really isnt all over the whole car as much as the bra area. Its been a decently kept car. yes i may be new but have gained a vast ammount of knowledge in a couple days of reading. So should I use DC polish? I really want my paint to pop with the tech wax 2.0.

To get the maximum amount of "pop", the application of DC Polish would beneficial before the application of Tech Wax 2.0, but the real key is going to be getting rid of the swirls and oxidation

If you do not plan to use Ultimate Compound on the entire vehicle, and only on the oxidized area, then you can consider buying Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner on other areas that do not need Ultimate Compound.

Though you may discover that you may get very good results already from using clay bar and SwirlX alone.

so i figured I would be good with the clay bar and swirl x because I thought the swirl x would be a paint cleaner? Would I need dc paint cleaner? I was going to use the polish though.
