  • Remove wax prior to 105/205

Do you have to remove all wax/sealant prior to using products like 105 and 205 or will these products remove the wax and correct the paint at the same time? I have two layers of NXT 2.0 and one layer of collinite 845, although it has been about 3-4 weeks since the last 845 application but water still beads nice.

I have always been under the impression that *most* people remove the existing layers of wax before polishing.

One would think that using an aggressive compound like M105 would remove any wax that is on their so....

Try a test spot without removing the existing wax and see if it gives you the results you are looking for. After a wash/dry of course

I personally wouldn't bother taking an extra step to remove it unless you are wanting to assess an absolutely bare paint surface before beginning the compounding. I've never had problems with M105 due to wax on a vehicle, but if for some reason you feel that it is acting up you could always do an alcohol wipe and see if that is the cause.

I would recommend it simply for this reason. You have to wash your car prior to paint correction anyway, just substitute your normal wash solution for Dawn dish soap.

Thanks for the input guys. Since I will be taking Mike Phillips advice (doing a panel or two a weekend) for newbies to the PC I think I will do my normal wash and just spray down a panel at a time with IPA.

I just wanted to make sure that there would be no serious ill effects.
