  • 1st and 2nd layer of Wax

I would like to know how much time should lapse between the 1st light coating of wax and putting on the 2nd coating ? ( I am using NxtTech 2.0 ) . Thanks for your answers in advance.

Re: 1st and 2nd layer of Wax

There is no real need to "wait" any amount of time before you apply your 2nd coat.

Some people like to wait 24 hours because of the polymers, but again, you can follow up your 1st coat right away with no issues...

Just to add. One of the main reasons for putting two coats of NXT is to make sure you have even coverage over the entire vehicle.

I believe that 15 minutes is the typical drying time for NXT, but that time lengthens as the temperature or humidity goes up or down. If one lives in Florida, for example, one may find that one needs to allow it to dry 30+ minutes. The best guide is probably the Swipe Test: allow the wax to haze; swipe your finger across it; if the surface is clear and does not smear, the wax is ready to remove.

EDIT: Oops, I just realized the OP was asking about cure time between first and second coats. Don't know how I misread the piece--old age, I guess. My apologies.

          Just to clarify...

The "2nd" coat should be applied after the 1st coat is removed....

This forum is awesome. I got a good chuckle from your post but in all honesty somebody might not be aware of something so "obvious" to everyone else.

I've been on tons of forums for all types of things and MOL is by far the most friendly. People here can actually make coherent sentences and use periods, etc. I find it very educational and relaxing at MOL. Anyway, carry on...

Just wanted to get that out and didn't mean to throw anybody off-topic.

Is it worse to put your 1st coat of wax on and wait... say a week.. but in the mean time have to wash it before you can wax it again.. or is it just better to do 2 coats of wax right away and just be done with it?

Well, the theory of 2 coats is to get even coverage.... so if you did one and waited a week, you might have uneven coverage in some spots. Does that really matter for a week?

Perhaps the best way to think about this is to ask yourself this question: If I delay one week for the second coat, will my car roll over and die?

It's just a car. The paint will be fine. Meguiar's recommends two coats of wax, but it doesn't specify a specific time when the second coat should be applied; indeed, it doesn't mandate a second coat. I like to get my second coat on my car within 12-24 hours (I usually get to it the next morning); but sometimes it's just not possible. Sometimes I just have to put it off until the next time I wash the car, whenever that is.

All we can do is the best we can do--and usually we do a lot less. If you are putting two coats of wax on your car within the span of one or two weeks, you are doing more than 99% of the U.S. population! Go for it!

Keep it simple! Keep it fun!

                            Cheers,
                            Al

wash, dry, wax as you did the first time or if you have only driven a little bit maybe quik detail it and make sure no pollutants or anything has bonded to the paint and you should be ok...just remember that it`s widely considered wise to let wax cure after drying and wiping for appx. 12-24 hours or so before UQD, more wax, sealant, ect. I`m glad I finally found your account/threads so I can try to hjelp you out, a lot of people were not paying attention to your statements then you missed a question someone asked you... "were you letting UC dry?"I read in a thread that you were having trouble with UC and were letting it dry and was hard to remove after making a lot of passes...you worked it into a dry buff which can sometimes instill swirls/marring/scratches and other eyesores. Work it less next time and do not let it become dry, if it starts to dry up, add a little more product or sprits with qd or final inspection. By listening to what you were saying this is the route IMHO I would take if I were you and wanted to bring back that showroom shine. Unless you have been instructed through this already

                              1) Wash
                              2)Dry
3)Clay (several passes with MSS kit, they say 9-13 lbs of pressure...press down on scales you get weighed on for better idea, or switch to the mild clay kit make sure you get the 32 oz. bottle of QD, usually just 2-3 dollars more than the 16 oz or at least so here.
                              4)Dry
                              5)Wash
                              6)Dry
                              7)Compound/Swirl Remover/Fine Cut Cleaner
8)50/50 IPA wipe down to inspect correction, SUN LIGHT or at least dual xenon or dual overhead 100-150 watt bulbs for inspection purposes...sun usually best especially 30 mins - 1 1/2 hrs after sunrise...an hour or 2 during lunch and 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hrs in the evening here (if the paint is flawless or at least a lot better than it was then you can either go over with a lighter pass with one of the less aggressive cleaners/polishes b/c u always want to start with the least aggressive products and materials and lighten up as you bring the finish back, opposite of if you wanted to steadily eat away at the clearcoat by moving UP in aggressiveness and using the same downward pressure (i.e. not changing technique JUST aggressiveness of the pad) hope that makes sense, or if the finish is to your liking and you feel going over it with some more of the compound would benefit with lighter pressure than b4 or a less agressive product would be wasting time then you can move on to the FUN part and apply your wax...SEARCH THE "MIKES" POSTS...AND ANDY AND MURR, THEY ALL HAVE THREADS ON EVEN COATS AND A TON MORE INFO
