  • AZ Hard Water Spots... Tried all of my aresenal...

Well I just typed a big write up, then lost it.Here is a smaller version.

A few days ago I went to do a detail on my 2 month old 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. The day I brought her home I QD'ed and put a coat of NXT 2 on her.

On saturday I went ahead and washed her like normal, but being AZ and summer with no shade hard water spots happened.

I had already pulled her inside, QD'ed and waxed with Gold Class Liquid Wax. When I pulled her outside to inspect is when I noticed the thousands of Type II hard water spots.

I have already searched the forum for answers and have tried all of my aresenal. After i saw the damage, I clayed, then tried SwirlX, ColorX, and ScratchX, they may have diminished the spots but they are still there.

I dont have a DA or a rotary, and wouldnt know how to uise one if i did. Plus i am a full time college student, and still live at home. My parents have forbidden me to take it to a professional and pay them, they are worried about schooling.

I would post pics but my PC wont read my SD card and the pics dont show the spots.

The car looks great in the garage, and even in the sun if you stand a few feey back. But at an angle, or if you have your nose to the paint like i do, it looks like RUBBISH!

Is there anything that i can do by hand, to remedy the problem???

    Thank you for help, Gary.

Sounds like you'll need to step up the aggressiveness. You've tried the mild cleaners with little luck, might want to go out and purchase some Ultimate Compound. Do a small test spot and see if that will do it. UC can do some great things by hand.

You mention that your first run seemed to minimize the appearance, so take that as a good sign. You may want to give SwirlX or ScratchX 2.0 another go (although you didn't specify if your ScratchX was 2.0 or not - stick with SwirlX if you have the original ScratchX). Don't be afraid to get pretty aggressive with hand application of these products, especially when using a foam applicator pad like the one that came with your Gold Class wax. Just be sure to shrink your work space down to a maximum of maybe 18" square, or even a bit smaller. Do a test spot in an area where the water spots are most noticeable, work the product with some serious passion for a couple of minutes, then completely wipe it off. Pull the car out in the sun and evaluate it again before proceeding with the rest of it. If that does the trick then you know what you're up against to correct the rest of the car. Otherwise you're next logical step up would be Ultimate Compound, used as outlined above.
