  • Clay Question

So there are 3 colors of clay.. White, Blue, Red. White being less aggressive and red being more aggressive (right?).

I'm a noob here to detailing, and am just pondering what I should buy.

When I look at a product like:

That tub is full of clay right? It's not just a straight bar like what comes in the clay kit?

Clarification and suggestions are warmly welcomed!

    Thanks!

    Re: Clay Question

    get white clay or blue
    red is too aggressive

blue if your going to be claying a lot of cars
    otherwise just use white

The blue mild clay and the red aggressive clay have 200 grams of clay in each package. However, the white Smooth Surface Clay Kit has 3 each 50 gram bars (total of 150 grams), but it also comes with Quik Detailer, a Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel and a sample of Cleaner/Wax.

If you are doing a lot of detailing and have plenty of lubricant for the clay, the blue (mild) clay tends to be the favorite. However, if you are only detailing a few cars here and there, the Smooth Surface Clay Kit tends to give you everything you need at one shot.

      Hope that helps

I've just checked the Smooth Surface Clay Kit, but it only has 2 bars in it.

            Oops...my mistake

The Smooth Surface Clay Kit does come with 2 each 50 gram bars, and the new Smooth Surface Clay Bar Replacement Kit comes with 3 each 50 gram bars, but nothing else...

            Sorry for the confusion.

              Re: Clay Question

Thanks for the quick input. I had bought the Clay Kit originally and seemed to like it.

I just wanted to know if I should be using blue or red at all. I only detail my one car. So the conclusion I'm gathering is to buy the white clay =)

              Thanks everyone!

                Re: Clay Question

You could always buy the Replacement Pack and then QD or other Lube seperately, if you didnt want the Cleaner/Wax and SS towel.

I would stick with the Smooth Clay kit, Walmart has it for a great price

I really need to buy clay in bulk somewhere.

I usually buy at least 2 Smooth Surface Clay Kits a week.

                          Re: Clay Question

Finally got the chance to use the Blue Clay Bar today and this clay bar is sweet!!! Used only 1/3 of of it and it picks up some serious contaminants (sp)....should have opened it up a while ago!

Guess from here on out, i'll be using the Blue Clay Bar for the cars that never get garaged and the White Clay Bar for a well maintained car / garaged car.
