  • need some advice for a detail

As some of you know, I just got my G110 today. I am doing a single cab red Dodge Power Wagon tomorrow.

its a pretty decent size truck. The problem is I have only two SoftBuff 2.0 Polishing Pads and one finishing pad. So what should I do?

clean my pad on the fly after every panel?

    thanks in advance

yeah, I will need to buff smaller sections and clean my pad very often probably.

but Im am not sureif that is even right to do.

Not sure what you are worried about exactly, other than running out of pads, or not having fresh ones around?

What products will you be using?

I will be using M80 Speed Glaze or M205 for this truck then most likely go straight to Tech Wax.

What I am saying is that I only own two polishing pads and one finishing pad.

arent you supposed to have at least five or six polishing readily available? especially for larger vechiles

i only have two polishing pads that came with my kit, I plan on buying more. Thats why I asked if I should just clean my pad on the fly a lot more so It can be used for a while.

Im new to the G110 so I probably am not making much sense

I'll be watching you closely with this G110 Nick. If you like it and have great results using it, then that will be the deciding factor in my purchasing one!

I wish you the best with it.

I am pretty sure I will like it. I just need to get more experience with it and buy some more pads and the W68 backing plate.

But I am very excited to try it for the first time tomorrow

Re: need some advice for a detail

Hey Nick, you only need 1 pad per product. If you decide to use either M80 or M205, you only need 1 polishing pad for it. Apply your product to the pad, do a small section, and continue on to a new section. After covering about 2 panels, clean your pad on the fly. This will keep from product building up in the pad.

Once you move to NXT, use your one finishing pad. I normally don't clean my pad on the fly until the very end with applying an LSP unless it is a large vehicle like my truck, I'll do it once. This is because you can spread your LSP further if the pad is already wet with product rather than cleaning it all off and out.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                Remove swirls my friends.

Re: need some advice for a detail

What happens is, as you work, the pad can get loaded up with product, and as the pad gets heavier, it can lose its effectiveness, by not spinning as easily.

Now, for spreading wax, or even a mild cleaner, its not as big of a deal.

But if you are trying to remove defects, you want the pad to spin properly.

So yeah, defiantly clean your pad on the fly a lot. If you just going to use one product and be done, then you could go to a new pad halfway through maybe.

Murr and Andrew, thanks a lot.

Now i have one more question, today when I attached my backing plate to the G110 i then decided to pull out a pad and place it on the backing plate.

when I go to attach the pad to the backing plate, how centered does the pad have to be when attached to the backing plate?

Is it crucial that it be pretty centered?

                      Yeah, pretty centered.

I like to sit the pad down on a table, and then hold the machine and lower it straight down to attach. Then get it more secure with both hands.

As for the handle, I normally keep mine on. I like it for flat surfaces but it seems like the times I have taken the handle off that verticle surfaces are easier without the handle.
