I'll raise you another proposition for Last Tough, (KEEP IN MIND THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED BY MEGUIAR'S, it is purely my PERSONAL IDEA), but I mix Last Touch in a bucket of water at 1 ounce to 1 gallon and then use it for a rinseless wash.

Another example where praxis sometimes differs from official recommendations is the use of Last Touch. Officially Meguiar's recommends that for normal quick detailing purposes LT be used undiluted, which is how I usually use it; but I know that a few like to use LT as a quick detailer at 1/1 dilution ratio.

Lot cheaper than ONR, and appears to work the same. I never believed the hype in the "protective polymers" ONR supposedly left behind, so no loss there IMO.

I had a curious thing happen to me last week. I sprayed LT on my car to remove a little dust, and it seemed I couldn't wipe it off. It just smeared. So I grabbed the bottle of 1/1 LT that I use for claying purposes and sprayed it on, and I had no problem removing it. Go figure. It was a humid day, so perhaps the humidity had something to do with it. I don't know.

May I ask what Meguiar's official stance is on cleaning pads? I have a bunch of pads I'm going to need to clean for the first time.

If Dawn is no good, what about Simple Green or the Meguiar's APC?

I use Pinnacle XMT polishing pad cleaner as it came in the kit with some pads my g/f got me for xmas. I have also used Dawn Power Dissolver and Megs APC+ (i am using apc+ for lots of things, really a versatile product)

I use speed 6 96% of the time. The other 4% is reserved for speed 3 for spreading and finishing. I want more correction in less time. I haven't noticed any issues with my pads either (Lake Country).

Here lately I have been using speed 6 on my PC 7424 with no issues either. Will I over time, , but I have been stocking up on pads and have a G110 as a backup.

Interesting thread here

Lots of great comments, and the bottom line is, there are so many variables that effect performance of any product it is tough in many cases to give a specific answer w/o seeing the vehicle in person or trying a test spot. We hope you all agree that we, as well as, all the members of this community do their best to pass along helpful suggestions / solutions as much as we can.

If any of us really go back and study the past posts we will see that NOBODY from Meg's has taken an official stance on a lot of things. They skirt the issues, with good reason, and recommend contacting customer service or an official channel. Well, that's my two cents.

We apologize if you feel we skirt the issues, but we do our best to assist as much as we can. In addition, this is definitely an Official Channel of Meguiar's, Inc. and the information located here is both from community members, as well as, Meguiar's Team members. If there is a Customer complaint, we send them to CCC in order to properly document and process the complaint, and that is by design. So again we apologize if you feel we are skirting any issues. We are actually doing our best to service the situation.



If we are reading this right, let us clarify a few things also...

1. Yup....the Kevin Brown Method is officially a no-no. Although hundreds (fast becoming thousands) have used it to success.

Not sure we have ever stated the KBM is a "no no"...We have said that it is not necessary to do every time you pick up and use a DA polisher in every situation...maybe some confusion there...

2. Original M105 was used with huge success as well with orbitals prior to the DA-approved version.

We know the original version was used by many, but again, with all the variables in paint and situations, we took the high road and said to not use it originally because in many cases, it wouldn't work properly and that would lead to a disappointed customer. And since we did hear of it was being used more and more by DA, we made a formula change to try and make it friendlier to use by a DA

3. Won't get into that huge discussion but literally tens of thousands still using Dawn for wax removal or pre-soak.

Exactly....that's why when they do officially come out and make a recommendation it carries so much weight as in the "no speed 6" or "no cutting pad with a DA" or "least aggressive method first" recommendations which can be found in posts by Mike Phillips, Mike Pennington, etc all over the board.

The purpose of this thread was to enlighten some of the members as to
why these things were recommended and what the reality of the recommendation means for you...

Which pads do you have...the originals or the newer 2.0 series of Meg's pad? The newer ones are machine washable.

My stance is this is a "Forum" sponsored by Meg's. It is a conduit for all of us car detailing lovers to help each other out and pass on the tricks of the trade. I have used Dawn to clean my pads in the kitchen sink for years with no issues. Never had the velcro fall off, never had the foam fall apart, nothing. I then spin dry on my rotary or throw in the dryer. Again, no issues from that.

Pads are tools, made to do a job. They have a service life and then you throw them away. No big deal really....I mean $10 a pad is nothing when you consider how much use you can get out of them.
