  • Black car help......

Alright guys I have read tons of threads and posts, and they were all very informative but I am still lost on what products to use on my car. I have a 08 acura tl in the nighthawk black pearl, the car does not have any serious scratches, but I do have what I call spider webs/ or swirlmarks. The shop I work at uses 3m products and I do not want to use them on my car, there are so many meguiars products that I do not know were to start. I was told to use the ultimate compound with the yellow polishing pad on my dewalt polisher. Or should I use something else that I know for sure is going to work?? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure every noob that joins the forum asks the same questions.. Thank you for your time guys..

The variable speed grinder/polisher.. the typical polisher that body shops tend to use..

Stay away from using the rotary unless you really know what you're doing. Honda's NightHawk Black Pearl is an infamously soft paint that's sometimes difficult to correct with machine. I think we have had a few members here that had to resort to hand polishing to remove all traces of holograms and swirls. Try to start off with something relatively mild like SwirlX from the consumer line or M83\M80 from the professional line.

siksi1, if you are going to use your rotary on your car, you may wish to look at this thread and to check out the various threads cited by Mike P. Speaking only for myself, I would never attempt to rotary buffer my car until I had practiced on a number of old panels. I love my car too much to risk damaging it.

Hi clearly coated, interesting to hear you mention Honda's Nighthawk BlackPearl color. My new car Honda(avatar) is black pearl. Nighthawk: I think so?

Anyway, apart from it being new i tend to find it's soft in comparison to my older civic.(this was discussed in an earlier thread about bug removal).Mike gave me some good tips anyway for removing bugs from the new car.

The outcome of the discussion was basically that black gets hotter, for example in the sun than that of my medium blue civic.Heat absorption.

I use this polisher on a daily basis.. I wet sand and buff pretty much all day. I am very conifident in my ability, I just do not know the product line very well, and if I do not have to get into a heavy cutting compound I would prefer not to.

I don't know what it is about Honda's NBP, but many Honda Fit owners with this paint color have noted how soft the paint is. I have a royal blue pearl paint on my Accord, but I don't think it's as soft as what I have heard described for the Nighthawk black paint.

I withdraw my earlier comment. I apologize for the misundertanding.

Meguiar's consumer line polishes (SwirlX, ScratchX 2.0, and Ultimate Compound) are not formulated for rotary use. You need to turn to their professional line polishes and compounds.

Their two newest polishes are M205 and M105. These are the ones you should look into. Both are based on Meguiar's new super micro-abrasive technology. If you do a search of the forum, you will find all the information you need on their proper use, or you can post your questions about each product here in this forum. Your fellow rotary users will be happy to share with you their knowledge of and experience with these products.

Other products you may wish to investigate are M80, M83, and M95, especially if you are well acquainted with diminishing abrasive polishes. Until the introduction of the M105/M205 combination, the M80/M83 combination pretty much ruled the roost here on MOL.

                    Good luck!

I agree with Clearly Coated... M80 with either the new polishing pad or the old 8006 polishing pad should be a good start, but having heard Acura paint is very very soft, you might want to even start with something like a finishing pad and M80. Start with something very very mild... I bet 2-steps of M80/9006 or new(don't know the #) finishing pad would work great, or M80/8006 then M80/9006. Post your results.

If you're working on fresh paint, as in sanding and buffing fresh paint then you want to go with either of the two options below,
                        • M105/M205 Tag Team
                        • Solo System

                        M105/M205 Tag Team
The M105 is an aggressive cutting compound but you have great control over how aggressive the cut is by how long you buff, pad choice and things like pressure. For less cutting use a less aggressive pad, don't push too hard and only buff for a short time.

                        Solo System
The Solo System is a one liquid system where you just use M86 Solo Cutting Cream and switch pads for either cutting or polishing.

Our new abrasive technology used in M105/M205 and the Solo System is like nothing you've probably ever used before. Both are simple systems the give your professional results fast.

Which system sounds more to your liking and we can provide you with more information.
