If this is a factory new, 2009 car, then a compound is probably unnecessary. Substitute that with a cleaner/polish (Meguiars M80 or M205) or an OTC product like SwirlX. Follow that up with a sealant wax like NXT 2.0 followed by an application of your liquid wax.

I agree with ClearlyCoated. Avoid the compound for now. That should be unnecessary. Instead use a milder polish like SwirlX, which you can get at Walmart or the local auto stores. And don't forget to do a TEST SPOT first before polishing the entire car.

Your process might look something like this:

      1) Wash
      2) Clay
      3) Polish (SwirlX)
      4) Wax (two coats for uniform coverage)

I have never tried the Black Magic Liquid Wax. It was highly rated by Consumer Reports, but it gets mixed reviews on the detailing forums. Do let us know how it works out for you. As an alternative wax you might consider NXT or HiTech Yellow Wax.

Will this be a daily driver for you? If so, you may find of interest this article: Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen.

EDIT: I just re-read the original article and realized that you are looking to buy a 1997 car. Depending on the paint condition, you may wish to use a compound. Instead of the TW compound, though, use Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. It is based on Meguiar's new super micro-abrasive technology and often leaves the paint LSP-ready. Do a test spot with the SwirlX. If that does not accomplish the level of paint correction you desire, then move up to the Ultimate Compound. But always do a test spot first.

        Turtle wax, Black Magic?!?!?!!

Anyway since this is a 1995 car.

        1. Wash
        2. Clay
        3. Polish
        4. Wax

Use SwirlX or Ultimate Compound For the Polishing step, and NXT 2.0 For the wax. meguiars clay kit is great too.
