  • paint cleaning question

I am getting my '68 Imperial Crown ready for the upcoming cruising season, and the white paint needs shining up. When I bought it last november, it had been repainted at some point in time. it has a decent shine, but has a slight haziness to it, what do I need to use to get it ready for polish/wax , clay it,or a paint cleaner? also I will be doing it by hand, or using my orbital polisher.

    Re: paint cleaning question

Any pics? That would help most.

Do you know if it is single stage, clearocat?

    The general steps would be:
    1. Wash - 2 buckets, quality soap, quality sponges/towels.
    2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay Kit, maybe buy an extra QD bottle.
    3. Clean - SwirlX. Always do a test spot before the entire car.
    4. Polish - Optional, but Deep Crystal #2, or #7 Show Car Glaze are good choices.
    5. Wax - Nxt 2.0 is tough to beat.
    6. Wax - 2 thin coats are best.

    7. Maintain - Usung Ultimate Quick Wax or Ultimate Quick Detailer after future washes, or UQD at the show, will help keep the shine fresh.

              Re: paint cleaning question

ColorX is a medium strength cleaner/wax, it has been out a while.

Based on the pics, I think I would at least give a full detail as described above at first.

Be sure to do a test spot with SwirlX and the pure polish to make sure you get good results. As long as the haze isnt orange peel or anything, the cleaner and polish should take care of it.

                  Re: paint cleaning question

SwirlX should be a fine start and if needed move up to a stronger product such as Ultimate Compound, but do a test spot.
