Nxt isnt really designed to bead.... so it really comes down to how the water is sprayed on the car.

If it is a light spray, you'll get more beading. If it is a heavy rain, flooding, you'll get more run-off.

You could also try claying next time. It will make the surface smoother, which helps.

A little off topic: Does anyone else find that when a waxed car has water spots/mineral deposits all over, it doesn't bead well?

          Hi fearless,

I know you wrote me on YouTube about the videos I had and I am glad you joined MOL.

In the videos the specific product I used was a spray wax called Ultimate Quik Wax. It uses the same technology as NXT 2.0 (Hydrophobic polymers) that help with water beading.

Either product should provide very similar beading action.

Are you able to buy Ultimate Quik Wax, or even Ultimate Quik Detailer in your local market?

Re: How to get that magical beading

My understanding is that beading is caused by high surface tension. Paint surfaces that have been well polished create high surface tension, as does different kinds of protectants. As a general rule, synthetic sealants tend to sheet water and carnauba waxes tend to bead water. See these two threads:

General Auto Detailing Discussion. Participate in existing discussion or start a new thread with your question.

I do not know which of Meguiar's waxes produce the tightest beading. I hear conflicting reports about NXT: does it bead or sheet? It's supposed to be hydrophobic, so I would think the former, but I'm not sure. Gold Class, I believe, tends to sheet water. Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax tends to bead.

According to the Megs' FAQ, Cleaner Wax is particularly good at producing beading:

And if you like to see water beading on your car's finish after washing or following a rain storm, you will not be disappointed. The chemists at Meguiar's recently reformulated A-12 Cleaner Wax to bead water like nobody's business! Water beads are small, tall and tight and last and last.
Another important factor to beading is how the water hits the car. During a hard shower, the water will sheet off. During a light rain, the water droplets will bead.

If the paint surface is dirty, water will not bead as well, as the dirt and bonded contaminants break the surface tension.

Wash and clay your car. Polish your car with ScratchX to level the paint surface as well as you can. And then apply your preferred wax/sealant. Since you already have NXT, I would try it again. You might consider topping it with Ultimate Quik Wax. I suspect you will be pleased with the results.

Re: How to get that magical beading

From my experience the best beading wax Meguiar's made was #16. This can be hard to get but not impossible. Very tight beads, yet I prefer the NXT 2.0 and UQW products for the way they shed water.

Re: How to get that magical beading

To be honest with you, i think all Meguiar's product can make the magical beading happen...

this is my aunt's car, and there was so many leaves stuck on the hood that i can't hose them off.

i didn't even do a car was... (which is bad... but it was already dark... and feelin lazy) so i try my best with wet towel and remove, use clay bar to take out all the dirt.

forgot to dry it.. so it got some bad water spot...
so i just UQD to clean the hood... it rained the next day morning...
                      and this happened.

sorry for the stupid cell pic.
