  • A Few Questions about 2.0 Pads/Polishes

    Alright,

    So I've been on this forum for a while, but stopped coming on for a bit since I had my detailing process mastered (in my opinion).

    I was here when 80 use to be the "go-to" product. I see a lot of talk about this new M105, and since I've been out of touch with the forum for a minute, I've been wondering, does anyone still use M80? Is it still the "go-to" product? Or has it been replaced by M105? I'm lost on that one.

    Second, my good ol' G100 is still running strong, so I haven't gotten the G110 (I was here when that replaced the G100). Likewise, I never upgraded to the 2.0 Pads since my older pads, W8006, etc, were doing just fine.

    Well, the backing plate used for those pads gave out on me, and the pads are starting to wear down, so I'm about to order a new batch of 2.0 pads.

    My question is, will the new W68DA backing plate attach to my G100?

    Thanks.

    M80 is still used, but not as much anymore because people tend to like using the M105/M205 combo. That being said, does not mean that there isn't a place for M80. I suggest that you take a look at the order of aggressiveness thread here:

    Order of Aggressiveness

    It all depends on what you are working on, and what products work best after doing test spots.

    The new backing plate will fit your G100, it is the same mounting mechanism as the old one.

    I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

      I'll certainly be finishing up the #80 I have before switching to #205.

        Isn't M105 a 10/10 on aggressiveness? So how are people using it with the DA and not experiencing problems? I thought M80 was as good as it got, haha.

        Second, M205?

        So are people:

        washing
        claying
        m105
        m205
        seal?

        is that the replacement for

        wash
        clay
        m83
        m80
        seal?

        if #7 isn't being used....

          Just researched a little more, I'm guessing M205 is a newer, amped up version of M80, same order of aggressiveness (4/10)

            Andrew's suggestoin of checking out the order of aggressiveness thread will be very beneficial. With the newer products you have the introduction of the new formula with the SMAT's technology, allowing the product to work a little longer, and finish out cleaner and clearer.

              So many people(myself included) have already posted thier results and findings with M105/M205, so I won't go into too much depth about it. A quick search will get you all the info you need.

              IMO, M205 is an amazing product. Honestly, I haven't even touched my bottle of M80 in over a year, I have absolutely no reason to. M205 does everything M80 can do, plus more. If you're holding onto your M80 and not buying M205, you're missing out on a great product, and punishing yourself. Once you use M205, you'll never look at M80 the same again.

              Anyone in the Dallas area that is interested in trying M205, please get in touch with me, I'll be happy to let you try some out.

                Exactly what I needed to hear.

                So wherever I used 80 in the past before, I can use M205? Is it used on the same pad? A polishing pad?

                Second, a final question on pads.

                "Back then,"

                W7006 - Cutting
                W8006 - Polishing
                W9006 - Finishing

                So now, with the new 2.0 pads, since I've seen they changed color:

                W7006 = W7207 ?
                W8006 = W8207 ?
                W9006 = W9207 ?

                Which one is the black one?

                I'm just trying to get all this cleared up because I'm about to place an order for a new batch of products...thanks.

                  Your order is correct. The black\charcoal pad is the new 2.0 finishing pad

                    Check out this thread in Hot Topics,

                    What's the difference between Meguiar's Super Micro Abrasive technology and Meguiar's Diminishing Abrasive technology?

                    Used M105 and M205 on an oxidized single stage paint via RB yesterday and it worked like a charm...

                    M105/W5500/RB - 1500 RPM
                    M205/W-8000/RB - 1500 RPM

                        Thanks a lot yall.

                        Just as a final precaution though, everywhere I was using M80, I can now use M205 correct?

                          That is correct.

                          For now, I keep my M80 around, although I haven't had to use it in quite some time. I keep thinking that I'm going to need it someday, but that hasn't happened. I tend to be a "pack rat" so I usually hang on to things until someone tears it from my bloody hands

                            I have a full gallon of 80 and 83 that have never been opened, after using the new products, not sure I will, but like Nick, I want one of everything! I should probably try to sell them...
