Just to be safe, clay actually does not remove swirls or scratches. Clay works by abrading away contamination that is bonded to the surface of the paint, but will not remove paint in the way a polish would which would result in a surface that was level and without swirls or scratches.
Hope that helps to clear things up!
So the clay would probably just get the black out, right?

Maybe, depends how bonded the marks are to the paint.
Clay bars can remove "surface contaminates", I think your marks might be rubbed into the paint.
Try the clay first, then move onto stronger products.
unfortunately because of my job and school I didn't have time so I had to use roll through, you know the ones with flaps that spin.
While I don't know where you live, you may be limited to the automatic car wash choices in your area. You happened to choose probably the worst of them all, and since it left those kind of marks on your car, it is obvious the car wash owner doesn't maintain the equipment properly. For starters, avoid this car wash like the plague!
If you absolutely must wash your car, go to a coin op bay and just use plain rinse setting as to not erode your wax coat. Never use the brush in those bays either!
It was surprising to me that ColorX wasn't mentioned as a possibility.
The combination of chemical cleaners and mild abrasive coupled with the fact it leaves some protection seems to be made for this application.
One step, quick & easy, especially with a PC.
A complete polishing is probably in line, but that won't be quick & easy.
If it is what I think it is wax should remove them, a little dupont gun and equipment cleaner, rubbing gently ,would do the trick if the wax does not work.
