when you say new paint do you mean you just got the car repainted or as you just bought a car sitting on a car dealership's lot.

If you just bought the car brand-new from a dealership, you can clay and wax whenever you want to. If your car just got repainted, you can clay the paint, and I would use M07 Show Car Glaze until the curing period for the paint is over. M07 would most likely be very similar to 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, which according to Autogeek is "Perfectly safe and nourishing for brand new paint". See the below sites for more info.

You can clay it. Does it have over spray?
Meg's Pro line is "body shop safe".
They let the paint out gas.
You'll be fine with M7 and just be patient
I went through this a few months ago and I know what your going through.

"over spray"- Paint that was not intended to be on your car but was put on your car via "over spraying" the intended part. Make sense?
I was getting at why would you want to clay a fresh paint.

Since you're getting your car repainted you might enjoy this article from 2004...

                    Paint Needs to Breathe

Also, the topic of overspray also called dry spray came up in your thread and the point is that after your car is painted it is allowed to dry for a while in the booth and then moved out of the booth when another car is ready to go in. After it's moved out of the paint booth, (but still at the body shop), it's possible that it may get some overspray on it because body shops spray paint both inside and outside the paint booth and overspray can drift in the air and land on anything in the area, including a freshly painted cars. It's the nature of the beast...

So there's two things you have to look out for when getting your car back from the body shop and that's swirls and overspray. Swirls from their buffing process, (if they buff the car), and overspray if it's in the air while your car is there.

To check for either defect you look at the paint in the sun and feel the paint surfaces with your clean hand. (gently).
