  • paint thickness????

I recently purchased a positector 200, and a quanix 4500.... every car i do i record some of the measurements to see whats normal and what crazy and so on... my question is, what should the range be on a car that hasnt been resprayed? i undertand some manufactures are thicker then others, but i recently tested a porsche and was having readings anywhere from 3.2 mils all the way up to 16 mils!!! i know that not normal.. same with a ferrari i recently did.. one side of the car was from 4.0 mils to 6.0 mils which i beleive is resonable, then the other side was douoble that and i detected a bondo patch... ok ok my question is should the difference in measurement be 1- 2 mils 1-3 mils since i know its impossiblw to paint a car perfectly level and flat????? any info is helpful

      Re: paint thickness????

Some companies paint their cars by hand (person with a spray gun), so the readings are not as even as a car painted by a robot.

I'm pretty sure Ferrari does not use a robot to paint their cars, though.
