  • after debadge?

I debadged my truck by removing the emblems with dental floss, then scrubbing off the remaining adhesive using a cloth and WD-40. The truck is black so you can see a "ghosting" effect where the emblems were, as well as some fading from scrubbing around the area with the WD-40.

I've read that the best thing to do now is polish and wax it. Is there anything else I should do to make it look like nothing was done?

Eek, that paint needs some TLC! It needs some cleaning, polishing, and waxing.

Check out the "List O Links" on the main page. Lots of good reading there.

Keep in mind that a lot of what you see in the picture is the reflection of the camera flash - especially in the top image. I would've taken the picture in a better location, but I can't drive it right now.

So besides the polish and wax you suggest I clean it first? What cleaner would be best to use here?

        Re: after debadge?

Are you going at it by hand or machine?

        What are ya working on?

Looks like some swirling going on.

Let us know and it is the weekend so MOL brass is off but enough of us to respond to you

        Keep us posted.

PS, if going by hand, try SwirlX, Ultimate Compound and start with least aggressive approach first (SwirlX) then move up if that doesn't cut it.

Also, I would clay the car as well.

Yeah, you are going to want to look into some ScratchX 2.0, maybe Ultimate Compound for that area. And for the whole truck if it is like that.

            Re: after debadge?

            Thanks for the quick replies.

It is an '08 Nissan Titan. Since it's so new I thought that the emblems would come off easier - ha, nope. I really had to scrub at it with the WD-40. I tried just using my fingernails at first, which worked to a degree, but there was still a good layer of adhesive left that required hard scrubbing with a cloth to get off. That is what caused the swirling.

I'm just doing everything by hand. I've read some good things about the Scratch X - should I just try that with the polish/wax, minus the Ultimate Compound first? Or go ahead with the Ultimate Compound also?

I have Deep Crystal System Polish and NXT Tech Wax on the way right now. I'll grab the ScratchX tomorrow as well.

It would be fine to pick up a tube of ScratcHX 2.0 before using the UC. The UC is quite strong.

ScratchX should do the trick. It may take a few applications.

If there is residue still left from the adhesive try some 3M Adhesive Remover. It comes in a red and white can. Should be able to find it at an auto body supply store. The stuff is like magic. I just used it to remove some 3 year old decals from glass this week. I tried Goo Gone and WD40, they worked but not very well. One application of the 3M and it was perfect.

Be sure to let us know how it goes!

i used gasoline to remove what was left behind after my badges came off... hit it with the rotary and any choice of compund, then some polish with the DA, and some wax with the DA, ohhh boyo my car looks good now....

Wow, that paint is filled with swirls...You might as well polish/wax the entire car.

                      1. Wash: 2 Buckets, Grit Guards, Microfiber Wash Mitt
                      2. Clay: Smooth Surface Clay Kit
                      3. Ultimate Compound
                      4. SwirlX
                      5. NXT 2.0 Tech Wax

But, if your only concerned about that area, use ScratchX 2.0.

                        Re: after debadge?

Hey guys. Well, there isn't any adhesive left, just the ghosting effect where the emblems were and the swirls/fading from the WD-40. I've heard good things about that 3M Adhesive Remover, but I had the WD-40 on hand and many people have used it with good results. I've also heard the Goo Gone works good, too.

I picked up the Scratch X so I'm going to get started on it tomorrow. The only thing I'm missing is a foam applicator pad to apply it. I have the Even-Coat Applicator pads, but I thought these were best used for the wax. Should I just apply the Scratch-X with a 100% cotton lint free cloth, or do I really need to use a form applicator pad?

You can use either foam or microfiber, they will both work.

Did you get the new ScratchX 2.0 or the previous version? It's important because the new ScratchX 2.0 is a lot more effective at removing defects.

Ok, I'll use the Even Coat Applicator Pad instead of a cotton cloth.

It is the new ScratchX 2.0.

Will take pics when I'm done. I haven't been able to do much lately because of all the rain we're getting. I'd like to have some good sun light to work with.
