  • First Post - A few questions to get me started...

    Hi:
First off, I have to say this board is an incredible wealth of knoweldge. The information I have gained from reading the board over the past few weeks is invaluable. I'll be purchasing a PC soon and I'm sure I'll be needed more advice when the time comes to start using it. For the time being, I just have a few questions and I'm wondering if anyone might be able to help me out.

    1. #81 - Hand Polish: Why is it called Hand Polish?? It's meant to be applied by a PC correct??

    2. In following the - use the less abraisive product first - school of thought, I'm wondering if there is a link on the board that someone can direct me to which lists the products that are meant for the PC in order of how abraisive they are. Just trying to get a better handle of what each of the products are used for at this point.

    Thanks very much!!!

      Hey dschribs

      Welcome to Meguiar's Online!!!!

Meguiar's #81 Hand Polish can be used with a DA, orbital or by hand. Since it does not contain any ingredients that will clean the paint (it is a pure polish), there is no need to over-work the product. Instead, just make sure to apply (with a foam applicator)a uniform coat over a 2'x2' area and then remove with a MF towel.

      Cheers!

        Thanks!!

I did see that list but wasn't quite sure if the products were listed in order of how abraisive they are. So, using the list, #83 would be more abraisive than #82 which is more abraisive than #80...and so on...is that about right??

So under the cleaner/polishes section, #9 -Swirl Remover would be the LEAST abraisive cleaner/polish correct??

          Thanks 2hotford -

So being a pure polish, #81 will not remove any defects and/or swirl marks what-so-ever but simply bring out gloss and clarity correct??

Am I about right on my follow up on the abraisiveness of the products??

            Hey,

Pretty close! Meguiar's model numbers have no particular order. As such, #82 Swirl Free Polish is actually less aggressive than #80 Speed Glaze. I would suggest calling Meguiar's toll free number and ask for a free Professional Catalog. In it, you will find the various products with their intended purpose. Until then, if you have any questions, please feel to ask and we will do our best to answer them!!

              Thanks Tim

              Just requested a catalog!

One follow up if you could, can you put the Cleaner/Polishes in order in terms of how abraisive they are? I'm thinking that's the order that they should be used (if you were to use all four of them) correct??

Would this be about right? (most to least)

              #83, #9, #80, #82....

Hey Mike, here is another time consuming idea. Like the PC speed settings, do you think you could do a spreadsheet with the way to use the products in order, abrasiveness, why that order (cleaner, swirl remover, color enhancer, polish). I know it varies per car. Maybe breaking it down to old (paint is hurtin) light color car, new light color car, old dark color car, new dark color car?
Just another idea to add to your neverending list of projects.

Product Abrasiveness / 10 Job Area to work/how Pad Speed Removal

                #83 6 Cleaner / Polish 2x2 until almost gone 8006 3 - 5 microfiber towel

                #80 4 speed glaze / cleaner 2x2 until almost gone 8006 3 - 5 microfiber towel

Any other ideas of colums to put in?
It will obviously look better in a spreadsheet. Just an idea.

                  First off....

                  dschribs,

Second, to correct the order you listed, from most to least aggressive it goes:

#83, #80, then #82 and #9, they are very close in terms of aggressiveness.

                  Hope this helps!
