  • Removing scratch/blemish from windshield help

Hey I'm new the forums here but I need some help. I recently purchased an '02 Mazda Protege LX and need some help removing a blemish that runs along the windshield. It looks as if someone ran their wipers a little too long and the metal part burred the glass. It is only about 1/4 inch wide and runs along the whole windshield. I can barely feel it with my finger nails and is more of a cosmetic bothersome. I've read of some ways to remove it including #0000 steel wool and using cerium oxide. I haven't tried anything yet but would love to see some opinions on here first before I go to a shop and get it looked at. I've attached some pictures to show you. The last one is from the inside. Thanks in advance! Any help is greatly appreciated.

We recently tried a glass scratch remover and didn't have much luck with it. See here,

Mario, has purchased some more glass polishing products and may be able to chime in on this thread as to what's working for him and the scratches in his Mercedes-Benz windshield.

If he finds a way to remove the deep scratches in his car's windshield it should be no problem removing the scuffing on your car's windshield.

Re: Removing scratch/blemish from windshield help

      Hello there traxxasmaniac!
I've been messing around with my gf's Benz that Mike was referring to in the TNG link.
I just returned from a glass shop and got the official word on polishing glass is to buy a professional system because of the chemicals you get.
That being said I've experimented with Cerium Oxide, $15 bucks-mix with Deionized Water in a squirt bottle and use the slurry on a felt pad or I have used a 5" foam pad with great results.
I haven't made my post on this but it works awesome.
Also you can go this route, the Lake County Glass Polishing Kit from ADS has everything you need but patients. It will take you at least 30 to 60 mins of actual poshing time to remove those marks.
Here's the link to my post with the LC Kit. Take note of the last few post, as these people told me the facts of what you need to do.
      Lake County-Glass Polish System

Here's some pics of my Cerium Oxide Post I'm working on.

This part has never been polished
( note the Blue tape curling up, not water resistant you need Green 3 day tape from 3M)

Note: your basicly working with Water here
      THIS STUFF GOES EVERY WARE
I made a "damm" of sorts the next day to prevent this huge mess

Use your rags, roll them up and make a "damm"
Also get GREEN 3M tape. It's water resistant, stickier, tougher and $3 bucks cheeper

Terry cloth pad worked good, better then the foam

      See gone!

Here's the scrathes that still need work

Ok there's still more info I need to post. That should happen on Saturday or maybe at the TNG I'll finish it there.
Stay tuned or you can PM me if you can't wait.
