  • RainX and Similiar Products

Living in Florida, I am a big fan of RainX, been using at least 10 years and no complaints. It works as advertized.

I know there are newer products on the market but honestly, I can't imagine anything working better than RainX. The rain just disapears, simple as that. I think it's amazing stuff.

Maybe the newer products are a little easier or less time consuming to apply, I don't know. RainX requires a good bit of buffing to get a perfect job, figure about 30 minutes to do my windshield with two coats.

But I am always willing to try something new if it's a better product. So to those who have used RainX and other similiar products, what say you? Thanks.

A lot of people use RainX

A lot of people use the new Ultimate Quik Wax and apply it to there windows, they say it works much better than RainX. They both work great

Before using either one, use Meguiar's Glass Cleaner Concentrate!

I have not seen Meguiar's Glass Cleaner in the store, instead I used Invisable Glass and have no complaints as it does definitely get your windows streak-free. I would be glad to give Meguiar's a shot if I see it.

You might want to try a different way of applying it...

        - Clean/Clay the glass
        - Apply one coat of RainX; let sit for a bit
        - Quickly and roughly come back and buff off some of the excess, dont even worry about doing a bad job.
        - Apply 2nd coat, let sit.
        - Come back with a damp MF and a dry MF; wipe the window with the damp one, then the dry one.

You probably wont see the concentrate in a regular store, maybe a PBE store. But you should see the NXt Glass Cleaner around.

            Why two coats?

              Even coverage, just like wax.

Yea, I don't understand that theory.
I've alway done one coat, did a good job and never even considered doing a second coat of anything.
You don't need two coats of Rain-X for it to work.

It's not a theory, I've just always done two coats. RainX, if I remember correctly, fills in microscopic pores in the glass, and I'd prefer not miss any. It's just a matter of trying to do the best job I can.

In my opinion I think it is a Theory.
Everyone thinks they miss something, if you know for a fact you miss something then that is a fact.
It's a theory if you think you missed a something, your theorizing about your application, right? I think so but, I'm not a genius, I could be wrong.

The fact you do a good job ie: don't miss anything, your fine.
I understand what you and everyone else who does two coats of anything says

I've used Rain-X since it came out.
Never did it twice, done in a few minutes and done with great results.

                          Re: RainX and Similiar Products

Have used a thin coat of GC wax on my windows for the past 11 yrs. No need for Rain-X & no problems with glare or distorted vision. I have driven in pouring rain & the water just runs off.
I got so mad at a girl who was texting while she was driving, that I rolled down my window and threw my beer at her

C'mon guys, so there is nothing out there that's superior to Rainx?

So far there are a few guys sold on RainX and a few guys waxing their windshields. Nothing definitive.

I have never waxed my windshield so in all honesty I can't say one way or the other what's best. I am trying to learn from other's experiences and would trust that like all of us, we just want to get it right.

Basically though, I find it hard to believe that wax would give superior results to a product specifically formulated for glass. That is just my thinking (I'm an Engineer). I might be wrong and if I am I will gladly stand corrected because I only want to know the best way to go. Thanks.

Aquapel. It's more expensive than rain-x and you have the follow the directions to a tee.

What i dont like about aquapel is that you have to get up to 55 mph for the rain to fly off. With Rain-x water flies off at ~35 mph. Aquapel lasts alot longer.
