  • Rain and wax

Have a question. We are having our first car show Saturday and I have not waxed the car since October.
It needs Swirl X and waxed. I will clay bar later when the weather is warmer. It is suppose to be in the low 60's and rain. I can take it to the auto wash and bucket wash and a short drive home to the garage to dry. Would it be OK to do these two processes on a rainy day with low 60's temps?

    Re: Rain and wax

    Yes it would
Why can't you clay it now?
That's a good step you shouldn't skip, IMO

The whole process would go "smoother" if you clayed your vehicle first. Are you working in a garage or covered area?

You should clay first, and on the trip back home to dry...In the Rain, your car would be dirty again!

Like the above posters said so far, claying is an important step to the process, if you dont clay then when you wax it you will be sealing those contaminants in the paint and not really removing them. Pick up a Smooth Surface Clay kit, your car will be smooth in no time!

I might dry with the use of a QD, esp around the wheels, so you dont drag road debris around.

And you can always clay in the rain...

                    Re: Rain and wax

Not much you can do about the rain, wash your car at the auto wash, cross your fingers it doesn't rain on the way home.

If it does, then use some quick detailer and a whole bunch of clean microfiber to quickly wipe the car down, most of the dirt will be road grime sprayed up from your tires onto the lower panels, hope you don't get stuck following a bunch of people and the road grime spray their tires will be spraying into the air.

Is this the car you're entering into a car show?
