  • How much shine can you get on a silver vehicle?

might be dumb question but wanted to know because silver-colored cars don't really show scratches and swirls as much as other colors like black/blue, etc. Also 'mirror-like' reflections are very good on dark colors but not as much on silver vehicles.

Does anyone have pics of a sort of new car (I have a 04 van and brand new Civic 09, both silvers) showing the 'before' and 'after' when they did some detailing using a DA (or by hand) to get their cars as shiney as they could be.

    Thanks,

Hey Geek, my wife's is not silver, but close enough. Champaigne or something?

Here's a shot after clay, polishing and speed glaze. Not the greatest photo, but you can see it looks "wet" as I like to say. And when it's clean it feels smooth as butter.

Not sure but I'll be working on my car soon and will hopefully do a write up on the process.

You'll definately be going for shine more than a mirror.

You can make silver just "pop" with extreme gloss.

          Here are a few...

That should give you an idea. I also have pics of a silver Volvo I detailed and a darker steel gray Sunfire if you want more...

Yeah you can really make the silver pop but im not sure about getting a mirror shine with it. Your right though, silver can really hide the problems in the car

Of course silver will not have depth like a dark color, but it can be very reflective with its own unique characteristics. Silver is not the swirl hider some believe it to be. Yes, swirls are much harder see on a silver car simply because of the color and the refraction of light blending in with said color. But swirls are there regardless. Any swirls will hurt the reflective properties of the paint, hence the paint needs to be leveled (swirls and marring removed) so that all light is reflected equally. Paint that has been leveled results in extreme gloss.

Like the samples I posted in the below thread, dark colors will be much deeper and look most impressive compared to lighter colors, but you can still make them look really awesome!

checked out your link, you do awesome work, and the corolla is really an example of how great a silver car can look! I didnt really mean that it hides swirls more like you said that it is just harder to see without a close inspection

With the proper prep work and a coat of NXT/2.0 topped with Pinnacle Signature Series II (SSII) I think I do alright...

And even after two and a half years of ownership this combo still treats me right...

Here's my "Storm Silver Metallic." I don't have a buffer, so all is done by hand.

It does seem like no matter how much work you put into a silver car it'll pretty much look more or less the same as if you did a quickie job to it. I love silver because it's forgiving

Here's a few of my ungaraged Fit. 2 Coats of NXT 2.0 Wax.

Hey geek, here's my silver ride. I used DC1, M07, and NXT 2.0 on it after the wash and clay. The M07 and NXT really made the flake come out and the paint pop. It's an '03
