    Re: Home Depot Bucket

I had to force my GG's in as well. I just leave them in the bucket because you have to pull them out... They shouldn't cause swirls though honestly....

If you have 2 5 gallon pails (one with soap, one for rinsing), and you fill both up generously with water and don't stick your sponge/mitt/brush or whatever you use to wash your vehicle with too close to the bottom of the bucket, you should have no problem with contaminating your washing instrument of choice.

I have never used grit guards as I feel they are not needed for me. Everyone has their personal choices, but I think they are hyped up a bit too much.
There is going to be particles that float around in the water when you stick your mitt in... It doesn't matter how far you dip in the mitt or not.

I recommend you to get some

        Re: Home Depot Bucket

I recommend taking your GritGuard to the stores and just trying it out while you're there. There seems to be no consistency in how they fit in. I have 2 Home Depot buckets that are perfect but before I got them, I got some Wal-Mart ones that narrowed on the way down. It's pretty much impossible for your eyes to see if the bucket narrows on the way down so bring a GritGuard into the store with you and try it.

Last Night I Used a Different Bucket and They Fell In Place So Nicely.
I Also Think This Issue Has Added Swirls to My Truck!?!?!?!
Carfire, I almost bought the Lowe's buckets, but measured ones filled with paint that look like an average 5 gal, and the ones they now sell are smaller at the bottom. About 3/8" or so smaller than the grit guard. Pep boys, same problem. Home depot sells their standard 5 gal fo4r $6.50 and has their logo, so not too keen on those. They have 3 gal that look big enough, didn't measure, but they are weird see-through colors. Used to be you could go around anywhere and get buckets on the cheap.

US Plastics (internet) sells good buckets, not too pricey, and delivery is cheap if you get other stuff with them, like spray bottles, grit guards, etc.

I personally have never used grit guards, but I have seen some pretty nasty stuff at the bottom of my buckets when I'm done. Both my mitts float, though so not sure if it would make any difference? What it would help is when I throw my brushes in there. They wouldn't sit on the bottom so I plan on getting grit guards and new buckets in the near future. I'd like to find two 3 gal that would fit.

            Re: Home Depot Bucket

I use the regular paint buckets from Wal-Mart that are like a $1.50 a bucket and I haven't had a problem getting my Grit Guards to stay in place.

              Re: Home Depot Bucket

My buckets are Home Depot and the Grit Guards fit correctly. And to prevent the floating "problem" I attached a lead weight to the top guard (I use two guards in the bucket). I don't have a rinse bucket.

5 gal for $1.50? I'm all over that! Probably be getting canopies soon and need 6 for anchors.

Thanks sudsbyhubbs! I love this forum.

                  Re: Home Depot Bucket

I guess there are a lot of different size buckets/manufactures no matter where you get them and the tolerances are just not of any importance. I got both of my buckets at Lowes at the same time and my Grit Guards fit perfect in one and a little loose in the other. To keep the loose one from floating or falling out when I don’t want it to, I just simply tied a piece of string on the outer edge of it.
