  • Pollen and Gas Pumps

are really frustrating me right now. First off, it's only March...why is the pollen here already. I had a perfectly clean and washed car at 5 pm yesterday, and 10 pm today looks like I never touched it. On the gas pumps, I'm curious as to wether other people are having this problem. The last about 5 times I've filled up, when the pump clicks off the first time, the gas just keeps going I suppose, and spews out the filler neck, and onto and down the side of my car! I dont think there's anything I can do about it, but its just really frustrating

Don't know about the gas pumps, but i know about the pollen. I was looking forward to doing some work on my sis-in-laws Altima, outside in the nice 80 degree weather. But with a 15 mph southern wind the car was getting covered with pine pollen and seed debris after it sat a while. I was lucky enough to be able to go next door to my father-in-laws shop and finish. I did have to QD the whole car first before i could do anything else. Ahhhh the joys of spring in Mississippi!!

I wash the car in the rain a lot in the spring, just to get the pollen off somehow.

The pollen is already insanely thick here in Mobile Alabama. That's early!

The yellow haze has not started yet here, but I know it is around the corner. ON the gas pump issue, have you checked for Technical Service Bullitens for you vehicle? Some times this can be caused by an issue with the vehicle.
Let me know Year Make model and engine and I can check for you

I have checked, I havent seen anything. The filler neck has always been a bit finnicky, but it's just recently started to come out like that. I'm thinking it's probably the pump. But I have a 99 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 IL6

Is this at every gas station you go to, or do you go to the same station all the time?

Overfilling can cause problems if raw gas gets into your charcoal canister. Stations should also be concerned about the danger of spilled gas. I've seen a lot of people put the nozzle in the tank and set the clip to keep pumping until it automatically shuts off. Meanwhile they clean their windows or chat on the cell phone not paying attention to the fueling process. I suspect most states have a law regulating this auto shutoff function. If the station doesn't take care of the problem I'd report them to the state.

Pollen... I believe many northerners have no appreciation of what southern pollen is like. You really need to take a ride through the South to believe just how bad pollen can get. Cars turn that lemony-lime green color in a day. Pollen is also very abrasive. You can't just dust it off without inducing swirls.

The pollen is bad enough but they also have Love Bugs in the South that get so bad that the roads get greasy. They can make your windshield an opaque smeary mess and coat your grill, radiator and headlights.

Guess it's the price to pay for the warmer seasons.

Happens on my truck almost everytime I fill it up so I have to pump it manually on the slowest I can get the thing to pump. Boy is that fun watching the cents go up by ones with two twenty gallon tanks, weeeee Seems very select gas stations don't do it. Something (in regards to my truck anyways) to do with the vapor recycler's on the nozzle. The 05-06.5? Mustangs actually had a recall for the filler nozzle on the car...

yeah! a guy that shares my frustration. I'm going to charleston next friday, which is a 2.5 hour trip, by the time I get back, the car will be covered in pollen, bugs, and salt air

Man, I second the frustration about pollen. My oak trees went nuts this year here in west central Fla. with the temps up and down so many times. I've raked leaves 6 times at least, front and back, and now my truck is covered with gold dust and debris. If I didn't enjoy shade so much I'd do what most have done and cut them down...NOT!

I'd love to have the shade, would make detailing my car a lot more enjoyable, than in my barren wasteland of a front yard

Myrtle beach isnt much better than florence... my car is covered in pollen. i just washed it a few days ago, and i let it sit out while i was in class with the windows down.... dash, paint, carpet, trim, EVERYTHING HAS POLLEN ON IT> *****.

on a side note, my friends have garages, its nice to be able to use them. wash the car, pull it in the garage, blow dry with leaf blower and pneumatic airgun. !!!

i cant wait til may/june when its all over.

Go to Canada in the spring and park near a Birch tree. Your car will be yellow in a few minutes.
