  • Foam Or MF Applicator Pads?

What is the pros/cons of the two meguiars pads offered? I have some of the MF pads already but the new wax came with a purple foam applicator.

I really prefer the foam. I find they are less messy, but they are also certainly more gentle. The gentleness doesn't really matter for applying wax as you're not working it hard. However, if applying a paint cleaner by hand, the foam can give a more consistent result.

I'd like to piggyback on this thread and ask if anyone sees any benefit to applying a synthetic sealant with a microfiber pad, as opposed to foam pad? I have seen this recommended by a few people on another site.

Some of the sealants out there are like water. For those, I do like using a microfiber.

I plan on doing some polishing and waxing with these pads. Perhaps maybe one is better than the other for each application.

Both will work great but here is what I do:

I use MF Applicators to apply all polishes and paint cleaners.

I use Foam Applicators to apply my waxes/sealants.

The Foam is very soft and gentle compared to the MF so that's why.

MF Applicators are also great for apply dressings and wheel polish, unlike the foam.

I use MF applicators when I need some bite, and for applying interior products. I use foam for wax/sealant. I felt like I was prematurely wiping off the LSP when I used a MF applicator for that purpose.

It's really personal preference, both when used correctly are gentle to the paint. A large pad can be easier to hold and will cover more surface are when spreading a product out. It can also help to spread the pressure from your hand/fingers out over the pad. One small negative is that a larger pad will absorb more of your product into itself.
