2009 Ford Escape

My Escape has to be Minimum 50% plastic exterior .
As a newb I wondered does it make a difference (I'm sure it would)how the plastic is finished .
For instance the plastic grill looks like chrome and the bottom runner (under font and back doors)has a definite plastic ala interior look about it .
It would seem as an amateur one polish protectorate would not be good for both ?
Any help would be appreciated.

I am assuming the 1,2,3,system is for metal only?.

for black plastic you could use something like GC Trim Detailer to bring them back to life

Yes, it's for the paint.

But....I guess you could call cleaning the plastic on the Escape a "step" process, wash with car wash, remove grime with a stronger cleaner (test spotting of course) and then dressing the plastic.

Gold Class Trim Detailer, All Season Dressing, Solvent Based Dressing (depends on where you live if you can get it) and, M40 are good starts to dressing your plastics.

Yes, you can use trim detailer on the bottom flanks of the vehicle. The plastic "chrome" grill can be protected by wax (such as UQW,NXT2.0 etc)

Just to add


even if you cant find GC Trim detailer, M40 or ASD then you could use an interior protectant such as Supreme Shine Protectant or GC Vinyl Rubber Conditioner. Sorry i didnt understand your question earlier. and those escapes sure do have a lot of plastic on them as well

FireFox was giving me grief and greying out reply screen.

In truth my post was foggy I will try to clarify and focus on biggest issue after cheesy plastic trim.

Cheesy plastic trim (Black)comes up great with M-40 thank you.

Im still unclear about plastic that is finished like metal can i use crystal products or must it be gold class trim detailer (the entire front end with exception of hood appears to be plastic painted? like metal)

The 1,2,3 I was reffering to was
Deep Crystal® system .
I used this on a lease I returned and it looked like a million dollars.

So just one last question the aformentioned black trim also has little gouges in it can anything be done with that ?they are no deeper than say a hair in a piece of cheese(pun intended).

Also there is a (harder) plastic hing cover back door with a good scrape on it can anything be done with that ?

On the chrome plastic, you do not use GC Trim Detailer. You simply use UQD and the NXT Wax as you would on the paint for that.

The black trim you will use GC Trim Detailer, or any other plastic/vinyl protectant.

Ok That clears up one thing I was thinking Vinyl and plastic where 2 different entities.
However I must phrasing the one big question wrong.
The front end is almost all plastic can i use the crytsl system on it it appears to be finished like the metal - that is paint and clear coat not bare like the trim.
Damn sorry for being such a newb Im trying my best to describe this thing.

Yes, any part that is painted (either plastic/metal/fiberglass) can use the Crystal system or any other wax. You are treating the paint and not the surface below it. Best of luck with your new vehicle, I really like the redesign of the Escape (especially the interior)

If it has car paint on it, treat it like car paint as it doesn't matter what the underlying panel is made out of.

Im starting the Interior with the m40 looks really good on the rubber seals had a bit of an oops on the door arm rest as I did not notice cloth on the door for about 6 " x 1.5feet and cloth does not like the M40 much I got it cleaned off though.
There is some annoying silver plastic a bit on the dash and a bit on the consel that like started to come off day 1 not very happy about that Im hoping the M40 will slow that down.
It drives great - I had mini vans for a decade so this is a real treat.
