Re: Opinions on Turtle Wax Ice Car Wash

I did buy this sometime last year or later but never used it. I bought the megs kit and have since used that.

Anyone want a TW ICE liquid clay kit, just pay shipping and it's yours!

Isn't this kind of like asking about GM products
    on a Honda forum?

Of course it would be better option supposing you couldn't get any meguiar's car wash.

I can't think of any Turtle Wax products I liked - but the ICE products are bunk. Sticking to Megs for the long run!

All the liquid clay bar is, is a water based Cleaner. It does a good job at removing wax, but not bonded surfaces.

It could be some kind of combo clay-cleaner product.

The worry would be that you tend to lose the best of both then. The clay part already seems to not do much based on other peoples reviews.

Actually, after re-reading the Ice Clay bar kit product description, the first step involves using the liquid clay "remove dirt, stains and contaminants such as tar, tree sap and wax build-up and swirls". Could it could be that the step 1 product (liquid clay) is actually a paint cleaner and if so, would allow Turtle Wax to make that claim?

If it works anything like their liquid claybar, Meguiars, 3M, Mothers, et al have nothing to worry about. It's priced competitively with Megs CB, but you need to see the side of the box where things get a little smellier. It has a comparison chart (Ice vs "other" CB kits) where Ice removes everything (tree sap, bird droppings, old wax, "swirls") while the "others" do not. I would love to do a side by side comparison between Ice and Megs - maybe next month.

The wash is OK. I use it on the car I park outside.

WalMart is pretty quick on the trigger. Just picked up another Meguiars $20 Detail kit (the one with the Megs aluminum mug) and a bottle of UQW.

I saw these at walmart tonite and my first thought was how difficult it would be to manipulate the bottle/brush around the tire unless the brush detaches.

I also saw this which I think is new (and an unspoken admission from Turtle Wax that the liquid claybar is flawed)

A traditional claybar kit that makes some pretty lofty claims:

    (From turtlewax.com)
    Clay Kit

ICEĀ® Clay Kit provides the ultimate finish preparation for wax or polish! The Kit contains ICE Liquid Clay, Clay Bar Lubricant and a 100g Clay Bar. The system cleans more than a traditional clay bar kit. It creates a smooth as glass finish on all paintwork, fiberglass and metal surfaces, and increases the depth of shine when waxing or polishing.
    Product Benefits
    • ICE Liquid Clay is used to remove dirt, stains and contaminants such as tar, tree sap and wax build-up. It will even remove minor swirl marks.
    • The ICE Clay Bar and Clay Bar Lubricant are then used to remove surface contamination such as overspray and mineral deposits.
    • Does not contain harsh abrasives that can scratch or scuff your finish and is the most thorough surface cleaning system available.
