  • ColorX then #16

My #16 is still beading somewhat after months, and normally I would not wax at this time of the year due to weather. I am going to visit my folks on the weekend, and Dad has a nice big heated garage. I saw somewhere, different brand/product, (Adams I think) where they polished the car, let it dry, but did not remove it, but simply applied the final wax over it, and then once dry, removed both together. Can I do this with ColorX and #16?. I am just trying to save some time as I have limited time home before I have to do the long drive back to my home.
    Thanks.

I don't know what the official Meguiar's answer is, but I suspect it will be "no." I remember watching one of the Adam's videos on polishing where they did precisely what you describe and wondered about the process.

In any case, ColorX hazes pretty quickly and wipes off easy, so removal will not add that much time to your process.

Adding wax to another product already on the surface is going to adulterate the wax you're applying. This can sound like a good idea but it's really not.

Also, should the first product you apply loosen any kind of dirt or contaminant at all, it would be better to remove the residue from this first process than to risk applying wax to the residue as you could push the loosened contaminants around on the paint potentially scratching it while spreading the wax.

It's much better and safer to apply and then remove products using dedicated steps then to try to skip the wiping off step in-between as there is no added benefit.

Thanks guys. I thought as much. Will either just do a ColorX or not do anything. The car should probably be clayed, etc. etc. and the way #16 is holding up, I probably can wait. Just getting ahead of things a bit, and wishing this winter was over.

I hear you on that. I am soooo looking forward (as I am sure most people are) to spring when I can do a full detail on my corolla using all my new meguiars products. I did half of my girlfriends explorer last Sunday in out warehouse using ultimate compound and M80 (xmt #1 swirl remover as finish polish) and sealed with Wolfgang sealant. Hoping this weekend to put on a couple of coats of fuzion or xmt 180 wax.
