  • Best way to fix this? (PICS)

So i've got some serious clear fading on my rear piller now i've read a bit on the forum and so I think from what i've read this can't be buffed out, so what do I do? Would it be already to get rid of the existing clear on the piller and put a fresh coat of clear?

Also have sort of the same deal with my rear bumper, i'm pretty sure they were both caused from sun damage, I tried sanding the bumper before I can't remember what grit I used, I wanted to get rid of the clear and put down a fresh coat of clear, but i'm not sure if that will give me the look I want

Any help is greatly apperiated, thanks guys!

if you know that it is clearcoat failure then the best thing to do would be to keep it protected with a wax to prevent it form progressing as fast.

If it is clear coat failure then the best remedy would be a repaint.

Call it instinct, call it experience, but when I read your first post and you mentioned the year of your car, (1995 Ford Escort LX), my first guess would be you're trying to fix clear coat failure and I was wrong... you're trying to fix complete clear coat failure to the point it's peeling off the car.

Here's your images using the techniques outlined in the how-to article posted above for inserting images into messages on discussion forums.

Just to note, there's nothing you can pour out of a bottle or scoop out of a can that will fix either of the problems shown in these two pictures but especially the first pictures. Once paint starts to peel off like an onion it's time for a repaint. This applies to ANY companies polish or wax type products, not just Meguiar's.

The only honest repair, (and answer on any forum), is to repaint the car.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... for more information check out this thread in our very popular Hot Topics forum where you'll find a plethora of interesting articles on the subject of detailing cars.
