i just bought an 06 Ford Ranger that is "Torch Red". it is my first newish vehicle! if i knew red was this bad to keep clean, then i would have never got that color! hoever i love it. my problem is that there are little waterspots on the hood i cant rid of! when i wax it, it just amplifyis the spots. it has got to the point that i have to dry the hood AS SOON as i wash it to eliminate MORE spots! Im going to clay bar it next warm day and hope that gets rid of them...DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS on how to get rid of them and prevent them withot using a lot of money! i know im going to...

    1)Rinse
    2)Wash
    3)Dry
    4)Clay Bar
    5)NXT wax

Should this be enough to rid of my problem!

      Re: watermarks

In the Hot Topics forum, this thread is a sticky because it's hot or of popular interest and it explains what it means to remove a defect out of anything.

What it means to remove a scratch out of anything...

The below thread is in our How To Articles forum

How To Remove Water Spots off Automotive Paints

And what you want to do is akin to both of these, you want to find either some new ScratchX 2.0 or Ultimate Compound

Click on the link above titled "How to Remove Water Spots" and determine which type you have,

        Type I
        Type II

If you have Type II, that is the water has etched the paint, then claying won't work because claying only removes above surface bonded contaminants and Type II water spot etchings are defects that are "in" the paint, not "on" the paint.

You will need to remove a little paint surrounding the etching until the surface of the paint is level or flat. Then re-wax the paint.

Whatever is causing the water spots, if this problem is not stopped, then the problem will just come back again. For example if you park next to a sprinkler and the water from the sprinkler is causing the water spots, if you remove the water spots and then park next to the sprinkler again, you'll get the spots again.

Wax can only slow corrosive elements down, not 100% stop them. Anything strong enough to etch the clear coating your your truck's paint is strong enough to eat through a micron thin layer of wax.
