  • Acetone, alcohol, gasoline, & water

On my 550, all the interior black plastic now has a sticky tar-like substance covering. Does anything take off this stuff? Acetone, alcohol, gasoline, and waater & soap do not touch it. Yipes. Does anyone else have any ideas on how to remove the coating I now have over most of the plastic on the inside on my car?

A simple question -- How did it get there?

The car wass in the garage covered for two months. When I took the cover off, the tar stuff was there.
I used acetone after the tar stuff was there. I used it only in a small section until I learned it was not working.

Are you sure it is tar?
I do not think mold or mildew would be that hard to get up but maybe it is mold or mildew.
              Just a thought.

It may be that. Try a vinegar solution in a small area. If that doesn't work head to a pro detailer.

I do not know what the stuff is. I used 91% alcohol. It took the stuff off with some work.

Cool Thanks. I had found some sticky substance just in the corner of the doors right behind where the windows seal on the inside, and was trying to figure out what to try.

if you smoke in the car, it could be tar, I had that in an old car that was left to me

no it's not that, don't smoke in this. It's brand new. I think it something left behind by the protective plastic. The dealer told me what they used to clean the same thing out in another area. If nothing I try works I'll as them what they used.
