  • Meguiars Consider a Makita rotary package?

I've been wondering about this for a while. I see for some time Meguiars has its own PC dual action polisher covered by a life time warranty. I've also noticed many Meguiars detailers and enthusiasts are fans of the Makita rotary.

Has Meguiars ever considered establishing a relationship with Makita as it has with Porter Cable and offer a Meguiars Makita rotary with life time guarantee?

I assume it would also be a very attractive package. In addition to single sales it could also be promoted at the new NXT training program.

    What's Meguiars' input on this?

    Hi Bill,

I think Meguiar's has worked with a number of tool manufactures in the past as far as promoting and selling their brand of tools. I'm not sure why we no longer do this, but I'll ask.

I checked with Mike Pennington and basically it's because the rotary buffer is easily available from just about any tool store or home improvement store.

Hmmm....not around here In fact, the dual action PC is a lot easier to get at a Lowes (the only place) locally , and that's with no lifetime guarantee :nixweiss

I still don't think a Makita /Megs package would be a bad idea.
The same people who were inclined to buy the PC package and now want to step up to a rotary would probably be interested in it as well...think of possibliy promoting both packages at the new NXT trainings too

Purely a guess on my part...
Promoting the use of the G-100 to the General Public provides very little risk of use, and, of course, stimulates sales of pads and polishes...

Conversely, the rotary DOES have a risk factor involved...

Again, purely a guess on my part...

Jim I agree, that's probably it. But strong compounds like Diamond Cut and wetsanding paper are also available to the public. He he, one would have to get a Meg's granted license first to buy the rotary from them

              Just to chime in here,

Meguiar's started selling the D-100 around 1994 or 1995, way ahead of the curve. Meguiar's started selling a foam pad with a fixed plastic backing plate and a 5/16 fine thread stud for attachment to an air-powered dual action sander, (the kind used in body shops primarily), in the early 1980's.

As far as selling a rotary buffer goes, if someone were to post this in the New Products Suggestions forum, it will be seen, but I don't know if it will happen.
