Do you mean a cool surface and yes by the way the sun is out.

Or do you mean black paint on the hood of a car in August in Arizona where the surface temperature is over 160 degrees?

People always make statements about using this or that in the sun but there never specific.

Meguiar's has products you can use in the sun but not on a HOT surface in the sun.

    And here's some common sense...
Even if you have a product that can be used on a HOT surface in HOT sun,
wouldn't the product still work better on a cool surface in the shade?
Sorry for the late reply Mike, I come here less than I should

I mean when the surface is hot. Although my cars are light metallics, I do have a Jag bootlid in my backyard that I like to practice on. Did a test over the summer while it was a hot day and sunny and it worked just like Richard said it would. It also worked great on a black GS300 at a Club Lexus meet I went up to. Quick ONR wash on the roof of the parking structure then applied it

And you raise a good point with the last question, I still have to do some durability test out of that thing

And that is the point. All too often someone on a forum will post something about how some product works great in the sun but they don't really define what them mean by the word "sun".

This happens in our Saturday classes once in a while to where someone will ask about working in the sun and then point out some product that claims it can be used in the "sun".

The problem is most people don't specifically define what they mean by the word sun but what they're doing is painting this picture into everyone's mind of working on a hot hood in full sun and that's usually not the case, especially a black car as the temperatures can exceed 160 degrees and with this high of temperature the liquid portions of any product are going to try to evaporate. The effect this has is to dry-up the product while you're still trying to use it, thus this point,

The answer to the above question is "Yes".

So can you use some products in the sun? You bet. Can you use all products on a black car at noon in August in Arizona?

      Probably not.

Working in the sun? How HOT does your car's paint get?

Black - 168 degrees - This was at about 10:00am in the morning

        Re: Detailer's Story to share

I have to wash my cars ''in the sun" all the time. But only if they paint surface is cool to the touch...

As Mike Said, you I would never wash/detail a car that is HOT to the touch.

You get water spots, and a lot of other issues from my experience.

I know Meg's and many other companies allow you to apply them in the sun. Some companies use that as there main feature which is where people thank that others can't just because they don't push it...

Well, to be honest, I cannot do any tests for a while Mike. I prefer the Jag bootlid's surface to be swirl free before any testing but I had my PC split in 2 on me. Gotta deal with that first

I'll prolly post a thread on the aftermath of its explosion if thats alright with you. I find it very unique and since it could affect the G100 you guys used to sell it'll warn others to be careful or something...
