  • Help!!! Lots of tar....

    Hey everyone, its been awhile....

Whats the easiest way to remove tar?? Ive heard kero is one of the easiest and cheapest ways... How true is this?? Does kero strip the paintwork of wax protection??

    Thanks

Never used kero, but I can not imagine that it could be good for your car's paint in any way. You always want to use the least invasive method when treating any paintwork. Do you have any pictures of how bad the tar on your vehicle is?

        Re: Help!!! Lots of tar....

There's a few things you can try. Gold Class bug & tar remover, if you have a clay bar give that a try, you could also use safe-d-greaser in the Detailer range. All very effective at removing tar. A reminder that they will all remove any wax/sealant protection you have on your ute so you'll need to retreat the area again.
        Cheers.

I have had excellent results using the Gold Class bug and tar remover. I would try that first. Like others have stated, just rewax the area when completed.

I have used a little paint thinner to remove tar from my chrome wheels and some splotched on the lower paint. No problems at all. Just wash off quickly with car soap, dry and re-wax. Worked for me.

When you type kero do you mean Kerosene?

That will probably work, basically any kind of solvent will dissolve the tar.

Mineral spirits should work and is inexpensive. It can usually be bought at just about any hardware store.

Just to note, anything you rub on your car's paint with enough cleaning power to dissolve tar is going to remove any wax or paint sealant off the paint also. Plus just rubbing with water can remove a coating.

                      Re: Help!!! Lots of tar....

I've used kero for years to remove tar from paint and it's mild, cheap and effective. Go for it!

Yes, it will remove wax (any solvent will) so just rewax that section.

If you don't have any Kero around use WD-40 sprayed on a rag. Works in seconds. You still have to re-wax no matter what method you use.
