Furthermore, would you or anyone else recommend going without the clear and just sticking with the SS paint due to the possibility of CC failure, which results in having to repain the entire vehicle.

Re: Just painted my car today !!!

The main reason I used the clear is that it was available to me and I figured "Why not".

My father-in-law does custom paint and body. He mostly works on muscle cars and old trucks. I help him from time to time. This is where I learned my very novice painting skills.

On certain projects I have seen my father-in-law spray clear over a single stage urethane. Mostly they have been solid colors with no metallic. My father-in-law says that a single stage urethane will have more pigment than a base coat / clear coat. Exactly how this translates to custom paint jobs? I not really sure. What I can tell you that when I painted my car I first sprayed a test panel then my car. When I sprayed the clear on my car I did not spray the test panel. Now that I compare the test panel with only single stage to the car with single stage and clear the difference is huge. The car is a much deeper, glossier, and very wet looking. Now if only I had sprayed the metallic more consistent it would have really look nice.

Sorry about the large font. My spell check changed it for some reason.

Okay thanks for the clarification! I was just wondering as I am on the fence about doing solely SS or a CC as well.

Once again, great job with the car!
