  • Power Wheels Polishing

I just bought a red Mustang Power wheels from wal-mart. It was a display model and got it for $100!!

the plastic is scratched and swirled. I tried some products by hand, Scratch X, M80, M09, and NXT wax using a MF. None of these products did anything but mar the plastic even more.

I saw a post here a while back of guy polishing a power wheels with a DA but cant find it. Any suggestions on what to use??

If you got marring from those that means they are too harsh, or possibly the application method is too harsh.

I'm guessing the wheels are plastic? (I think I am having a hard time picturing what you are working on...)

      Have a picture?

Might have to use a felt buffing pad on a Dremmel or Moto-Tool.

Maybe some of our new SwirlX will work?

M205 is supposed to start shipping next week and that might be another product you can try.

                Re: Power Wheels Polishing

Hey everyone. I’m new here. Decided to join because I have a special need that nobody seemed to be able to answer. I bought my boy a Mustang Boss 302 from Toys ‘R Us a couple weeks ago, but haven’t given it to him yet because, like the person who started this thread, I bought the floor model which is badly scratched. I’d like to clean it up for him so he has a new LOOKING car the moment he receives it.

So the name of the game is taking out the scratches. They’re pretty deep. I’ve used 800 grit followed by 1000, 2000 and 3000, rubbing compound, car polish, and car wax. It looks like this will do the trick to remove the scratches, but they’re still there, so I probably just need to keep going a while longer with the 800 and follow with the finer grits. My real question, though, is how to restore the shine? I thought that 3000 grit/compound/polish/wax combo would do it, but it’s not working. I just sanded by hand. The last thing I’ve tried is Meguiar’s plastic cleaner #17.

Is there something else you all would try? Next things I’ll try include machine sanding (drill or grinder), toothpaste, and a solution of water + white vinegar + baking powder.

By the way, my situation is different from Kevin Brown’s (http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24639) in that I think the body on my car is in worse shape. I can’t really tell by the pictures, but it looks like the Mustang pictured there doesn’t have scratches as deep as those on my Mustang.

What do you all think I should use?
